Hi,
Same questions been asked in past but they are bit old so I just wanted to get the very latest idea about the area. I live in NL and planning to move to SE and I found Sidcup as a nice option but just wanted to get the view from people who live or lived there...
I have found few nice properties in DA15 area so it will be very helpful if you can please share your experience..

Thanks,
Liss

It’s pleasant enough if you like suburbia. I grew up around there and could never really understand why people rate it more than nearby Bexleyheath, Blackfen or Welling when all are pretty much interchangable. There’re a few more period properties I suppose, but the high street and amenities in general are fairly rundown IMO...

We’ve recently moved away from the whole area to the Kent coast and if you’re brave enough I’d do that instead!

@LurksNoLonger, thanks for sharing, moving away from London is not an option for me but is there any specific thing you did not like about Sidcup? The reason I am asking this coz I will be spending decent amount of money and do not want to be in regret situation...

I live not a million miles from sidcup and think its fine. Not sure how good the facilities are actually in Sidcup but there's gopd schools and lots of other little towns very close by.

I grew up in Sidcup and still have family living there (i now live on the kent coast). I like it as an area, plenty of facilities, some good schools, near to Bluewater for shopping/cinema etc and good transport links to London.

@Bobbiepin, @JanuarySkies: thanks, visited the area as well and it did seem fine to me but I just wanted to make sure before any big commitment that it is a good move...

I don’t actively dislike it at all, it’s just not somewhere I’d get excited to move to, but as I say that’s probably because I spent a lot of my life in that neck of the woods and I enjoy either the bustle of city living or the calm of the countryside/outdoors and Sidcup is neither - it’s suburbia which is fine, just not for me Smile

I grew in Bexleyheath ans went to school in Sidcup and now live in Sidcup which I much prefer.
I think they are really trying to improve the high street and have had some lovely micro pubs and restaurants come along. Also the Waitrose has really proved popular.

Lots of good schools in the area and apparently they will soon be building a cinema soon and a boutique hotel with spa.

It’s so quick to get to Bluewater and to London. We are in the process of moving but still saying in Sidcup as really love living here.

Stayed with friends there a couple of weeks ago.
It seemed ok and they really like it

We moved to Sidcup from Blackheath in 2015.
Just try to by near the station and at the right side of Sidcup. Saying that the house prices are ridiculously high for Sidcup. The high street is not that nice but at the same time you will get most things sorted there.
Schools are supposed to be the selling factor.
I commute to London Bridge every day and it is really quick.

Hi all! I would like to refresh this question and discussion:) We are planning to move to Sidcup in summer this year and of course, the key consideration is the primary school. My son is now in reception class so we are planning to move before he will start the 1st class. I know that chances to get to a good school though in year applications are low. The new flat will be near Orchard Primary School which I have seen doesn't have the best Ofsted (Requires Improvements). I wonder if there are any people here who know anything about this school? is it the one that should be avoided? Thank you !

Wouldn’t choose Orchard. It’s hasn’t been a great school for many years. Try and get into Hope Community school instead. You would probably be out of catchment for Birkbeck but that would be number one on the list for me
