Moved house, just realised there is no bloody storage space for clothes!!!

I have just moved to a much bigger house- I was in a 2 up 2 down before. One reason for moving is we only had room.for a wardrobe each in our bedroom and it drove me mad.

We have just put the furniture into the rooms and due to their shape there is no room for one wardrobe in any of the 3 bedrooms!

I can't believe I missed this...

All the bedrooms have a bed and chest of drawers in, but due to radiator size and having the original fireplaces (which I love) there is no room at all!

We can fit one wardrobe on the landing. But that's it.

Our bedroom has a dressing room. This has sloping ceilings so no room for a wardrobe. It has under eaves storage on both sides, which now has a dressing table and a day bed in front. I could put stuff in there, but its going to be really difficult to access.

I have bought a dress rail today.

I wondered if anyone has overcome this issue? Any bright ideas? I am feeling pretty foolish...

Built in wardrobes would be a good solution

loveka · 02/07/2018 13:36

There would be no room.for built in either!

Do you have Kingsized beds? If so, consider going down to double.

Can the beds be moved to another position to free up more space?

Consider getting ottoman beds for the stufff you don’t often use

Use it as an excuse to seriously Marie Kondo?

Solasum · 02/07/2018 13:40

Do you actually use the day bed and the dressing table?

Solasum · 02/07/2018 13:41

In that picture you could turn dressing table round 90 degrees and move all the curtain to one side of the window?

Solasum · 02/07/2018 13:42

Could chests of drawers go in front of radiators?

Cantsleeptooloud · 02/07/2018 13:43

Have you got more pics?

loveka · 02/07/2018 13:57

I am going to be one of those irritating 'I can't'' people...

Yes king size beds but brand new so can't really change them.

Yes I use the dressing table, but I could get rid of the day bed. That was the only place for it.

I could put a very small fitted wardrobe where the chair is in this picture- the dress rail is there now.

Could you post a floor plan?

A floor plan would be really helpful. If there's a dressing room then the obvious answer is to have it fitted out with rails and shelves. Can you not put the bed against a wall rather than across the window? I really wouldn't like the way it's currently set up.

Racecardriver · 02/07/2018 14:10

You could easily fit a small wardrobe in the alcove where you have the chair atm.

Neolara · 02/07/2018 14:10

We have built in wardrobes around a sloping ceiling. Works fine.

halcyondays · 02/07/2018 14:11

A fitted wardrobe with sliding doors could go in that alcove where the chair is. You could put a chest of drawers in place of the dressing table and maybe ottomans at ends of beds if there''s enough space.

loveka · 02/07/2018 14:19

The bed will only fit that way round. You can't walk in front of it if it's against the wall.

The previous owners had wardrobes, but they had very small ones now I look at the estate agent photos. And small beds I think!

The master bedroom has one wall with door to ensuite, fireplace and alcove. The wall opposite the window has the radiator and a small chest of drawers

I think I might have to change the radiators for smaller ones, which will be a pain as we have totally redecorated and put new carpets down!

I'd turn that bed round 180 degrees and look and moving the radiator if it's on the wall opposite the window. Put the rad under the window instead.

I hate to say this, but I think the issues you are having demonstrate why it can be better to live in a new house for a while before doing any work.

wowfudge · 02/07/2018 14:25

look at moving. It's no good having fixed things like radiators on the largest expanse of otherwise blank wall.

bzzbeebzz · 02/07/2018 15:02

Look at Pinterest for amazing ideas for using eaves areas for storage including hanging space for clothes.

Use the third bedroom for storage and occasional guests.

reallyreallyreallytired · 02/07/2018 15:07

I would get a smaller bed. I know it’s New but it doesn’t fit if you can’t have storage too. Lovely house by the way

bzzbeebzz · 02/07/2018 15:16

I just saw your first photo, you can do loads of cool things with the eaves/sloping ceiling areas - get on houzz.com and Pinterest honestly! No need to ditch the beds.

HollowTalk · 02/07/2018 15:20

You have my fireplace!

TyrionsNextWife · 02/07/2018 15:23

I couldn’t fit wardrobes in my house due to sloping ceilings, so I turned the extra bedroom into a dressing room and put really nice wooden clothes rails along one of the walls. The rails don’t take up nearly as much room as a wardrobe would, and there’s space behind it for things like suitcases etc.

CaliforniaLoove · 02/07/2018 15:24

Post a floorplan with the eaves on it, you should have it from the sale listing? I've just moved from a house like this and when we left one of the things the estate agent used to sell it was "loads of clever built in storage".

If you have a dressing room I don't so far understand why you can't have built in in there?

BubblesBuddy · 02/07/2018 15:58

The radiator needs to be moved. It should be under the window. It’s not a very big room with a big bed and bits and pieces. Chest of drawers not necessary as these can be built into the dressing room. Dressing tables are a major waste of wall space too. They are mostly air!

Lots of hanging is skirts, shirts and trousers over hangers. How much full length do you need? Build full length into the landing.

Solasum · 02/07/2018 18:17

I think the bed looks too big for the room (though it is lovely!). Chest of drawers where the chair is. The waridbe where chest js
