Does anyone know anything about kitchen fitting?

After a very long saga with our insurance company that left us kitchen less for 6 months work has now started on fitting the kitchen. The.kiychen fitters have just left for the day and I've noticed they have put all the cupboards in, work tops on and integrated appliances in but none of the integrated appliances are plugged in!!!! Why would they do that? Can I actually now get behind there to plug them in? I have never had integrated appliances before. They are not finished so they will be back on Monday so may e they will do it then, but surely it is much harder to do it now than when they were actually putting them in. After an awful 6 months I was starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel and now this is stressing me out again!

they probably haven't done the plumbing yet so they might gush water onto the floor.

I suppose you could plug in the fridge, if it is not going to be moved (they are supposed to be left for 24 hours to settle after being moved. When was yours delivered and put in place?

No they haven't done the plumbing yet, I'm not really bothered that they haven't been plugged in because I want to use them more because once a built in appliances has been built in can it then be moved to plug it in? The sockets are behind the now installed.kitchen cupboards and appliances.

Plugs sockets behind appliances, especially integrated ones is poor. What will you do if you need to switch the socket off or unplug the appliance? If the fitters have been arranged by your insurers, get on to them as this needs rectifying.

As said above you do not put plug sockets behind integrated appliances. the cable should be pulled through into adjacent cupboard then plug and socket there. or cable outlet there with isolating switch above worktop. maybe they or electrician will do that when they come back

Oh goodness I hope so I really don't think I can cope with anymore dramas! I'm going to get DH to wait until they have arrived on Monday before he leaves for work and ask how they are planning on sorting it all out!

Ask him to work from home or take a day off - if you're not around they'll do what they want, not what you want.

It's OK to have sockets behind appliances if there is an accessible switch. Commonly fitted about 150mm above the worktop, in a row with the sockets.

Are you going to be there on Monday? You could just talk to the fitters.

Do they do electrical work? Moving an electrical socket really isn’t that difficult.

I work 8-8 so not around when they are unfortunately. I'm going to get DH to leave for work late on Monday so he can catch them in the morning. There are sockets behind the appliances (didn't look like normal 3 pin plug sockets though) and then a bit to the side of the worktop where the switches are going to be. But nothing is plugged in and it doesn't look like now there is any access to the sockets all the cupboards have backs on them so no access. Hopefully they have a plan and it's just me thinking the worst.

Nooo.... never, ever be out all day and leave them to it.
When I returned from being at work all day the fitters had built the cabinets in and boarded up the stop cock.
“But it’s ok love, we’ve cut a hole in the cabinet wall and made a forked stick so you can turn the stop cock off by lying on your back on the floor and, using the forked stick reach in and turn the tap”. Angry
