How likely is this to be asbestos? (Pics )

Visited a house that had recently had AIB removed - all done by legit professional company and air clearance etc done by analyst.

However have noticed these fibres on the bottom of a shoe that was worn there. They're 5-10mm long and a fair few of them. Shoe hasn't been worn since but did go on a walk around a supermarket on way back from visiting said house.

I know it can be tested but I have a tendency to panic about things so trying to work out if this is the case here (otherwise I could literally get 10 things tested for asbestos a day!)

  1. how likely is it that this much debris would be left over and still be this close together to find its way onto shoe in this manner?
  2. does AIB debris even look like this - fibres are 'clean' with no other component attached to them. Would fibres really separate from rest of material in this perfect way in this size?

Could be seriously dangerous and you're asking non-expert internet strangers to guess for you? Get the company who did the removal to tell you!

Asking if anyone has any knowledge for reasons stated above

Given that they were a professional company and had air tests (which would pick this up) seems very unlikely.

If you are worried I would contact the company, it's the only way you'll get a definitive answer.

AJPTaylor · 20/06/2018 18:01

its hard to see from your pic but v unlikely i would think if its been done professionally.

wowfudge · 20/06/2018 18:36

Can you post a photo not so close up? I know you've said how long the fibres are, but I just can't put everything into perspective.

Anyideashelp · 20/06/2018 19:04

Is it possible to PM pics @wowfudge was trying to be incognito

I've contacted company by the way but no reply so far!

No idea but how likely is it that anyone on here would recognise you irl from a photo of your shoe?

BarbaraOcumbungles · 20/06/2018 19:06

Looks like pet hair that’s caught in the rubber on the side of the shoe.

Panicmode1 · 20/06/2018 19:11

I have a golden retriever - that looks like the hair she sheds by the bucketload...I would think if you've had a professional asbestos removal company in and it's been airtested it's exceedingly unlikely to be asbestos fibre.

Anyideashelp · 20/06/2018 19:17

Thanks for replies. I have a MAJOR tendency to panic on this subject and people I've shown on real life say it's nothing of concern but I'm a bit more OH MY GOD THE COMPANY MISSED A LOAD AND NOW ITS ON THE SHOE!!!

Actual asbestos fibres are teeny tiny. Asbestos board will have some amount of asbestos mixed in with something else. You wouldn't be able to see the fibres as they are so small and they wouldn't just release from the board. You might have just trod on something fluffy.

CloudCaptain · 20/06/2018 19:26

More likely to be insulation fibres at a guess.

Anyideashelp · 21/06/2018 07:51

Ok thanks for replies so far. Just trying to work out if this would have alarmed others

So the company say they're not from them as they carried out the job according to all the controls etc...

Trust the professionals and get help for your anxiety.

BusterGonad · 21/06/2018 18:37

I agree with Barbara

PigletJohn · 21/06/2018 19:45

if you want to reassure yourself, pick up some fibres in tweezers and hold them over a flame, e.g. a gas hob. Do they burn, or melt?

gingerbiscuitqueen · 21/06/2018 19:55

My dp is a building surveyor and he said definitely not asbestos !

Chunkamatic · 21/06/2018 23:21

I think from what I've been told, so no personal experience, is that asbestos presents itself as a brown dust rather than the long fibres in that picture.

Anyideashelp · 22/06/2018 10:37

@PigletJohn are you advising that because you can tell it's not asbestos? Or as a way of finding out if it is or not?

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 22/06/2018 11:34

I'm sure it isn't asbestos. I will be amazed if it doesn't burn (hair) or melt (fibreglass)

Anyideashelp · 22/06/2018 16:46

@PigletJohn can I ask what leads you to believe it's not asbestos? Do you know what AIB debris would look like? I'm 90% sure it's not but having seen you on other threads I would say you're infinitely more knowledgable than I am on this sort of thing so keen to understand how AIB debris would actually present itself. I'd imagine not in "clean" long fibres such as this...

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 22/06/2018 18:04

I have only ever seen "wooly" asbestos in a sealed jar in a lab.

I've seen asbestos board and tiles, and never seen fibres coming out of it.

I am assuming you don't live in an old power station or steamship.
