Greenbelt planning

Wondering if it's possible to get some advice on the subject.

We're just exploring our options and considering looking into applying for planning permission for one eco friendly sustainable house on a small part of a large chunk of green belt land that we own.
Currently the land is only used for horses and a few small vegetable patches.

The house would be out of the way and out of sight of the neighbouring properties and we would potentially aim to have some more livestock but would mainly just maintain the land and look after the wildlife, plants and trees already there.
Realistically before we get involved in anything I wanted to know if anyone has done anything like this before or has anyone got any insight into a venture like this?
And what are the odds of actually being permitted to build on green belt?

The short answer is you should go and talk to the Local Planning Authority for the area in which the land is located. They will almost certainly offer you some free initial advice and guidance.

Generally, building houses in the Green Belt is discouraged, but there is an exception for 'buildings for agriculture and forestry', so if you can persuade them that it is to be a farmhouse you might have a chance of squeezing through. A lot will depend on what the neighbours and (if there is one) the local Parish Council think.
