I'm moving to Tunbridge Wells from Twickenham to the St.James area which I know nothing about but I thought it looked pretty and the house was within my budget. Any advice would be appreciated!
I am hoping my DD (age 3yrs) will be allocated a place at St.James infants as I will live on one of the roads they state on their admissions page.
I just can't seem to find out much about Secondary schools in the area as worried that if she failed the 11+ what are the other choices other than grammar schools? Or even if she passed they are so oversubscribed what if she didn't get a place.
I'm not religious and can't afford private.
I know it seems premature but I really don't want to move somewhere where (read on mumsnet) I would have a hard commute, sit in diabolical traffic, spend 1000s on tutors and end up having to move again for a secondary school due to the moving fees so now I am really confused and need some reassurance.
The town looks lovely but am I just being naïve thinking if my DD studies hard and because I'm in the catchment area she will go to the TWGGS.
How many girls from St.James Juniors go there and if they don't get in where do they mostly go?
Also maybe I am being lazy but the pre commute 18 mins walk to the station especially in bad weather seems a bit off putting. Are buses slower than walking due to the traffic or if I cut through the park to High Brooms does this make the journey significantly shorter?
Thanks for any replies - I feel a bit out of my depth moving to a place I know nothing about!
