Kitchen dresser - yay or nay? Pics please

Have always wanted a dresser in my kitchen, despite living in a modern house, not a traditional farmhouse or cottage. I wouldn’t get anything too elaborate or large, I’ve attached a pic along the lines of what I’m thinking of. I’d like to put my cookbooks along one of the shelves and also display some china and a few photos. What do people think? Are they lovely or too twee for modern houses? If I could see some pictures for inspiration of what to display that would be lovely too Flowers

I think its fine, work best when they match the kitchen. I would put wine glasses etc and pretty cups in top, not sure what I would put on worktop, depends if plugs near.

No pics but I think they’re lovely & want one myself - can only fit in one place in my kitchen though so am quite limited with options. Currently looking for a cheap secondhand one I can upcycle!

I want to do the same as you: cookbooks & china & need to be able to fit the fruit bowl on there. I would say choose carefully as lots of the shelves are not deep enough for books - I’ve seen several which were lovely but had plate racks rather than true shelves.

Looks lovely. Similar style in Neptune

It looks great and very similar to mine! I have mine in the dining room but if ever we decide to knock the wall through it will be in the kitchen. Go for it I say!

unless you police it vigorously, it'll end up as a dumping ground.

ColonelCakes · 18/06/2018 09:48

I have one in my 1940s house and love it! Mine wouldn’t be big enough for cookbooks though and the cupboards underbeath don’t hold as much as a kitchen cabinet.

I do have to police it to keep it clear, but because the eye is drawn to it, I find the kitchen looks tidy as long as the dresser is tidy! So stuff gets dumped on other counters. I just have plates on the sheves.

You can use kitchen units to create one - so they look like a dresser but are base and wall units.

We have an alcove in our kitchen so created a dresser effect by adding two base unit cupboards with worktop and then open shelving above. We keep some gadgets (kitchenaid, nutribullet) on the worktop and cookery books and glasses on the shelves, crockery in the cupboards. It looks great.

Thanks for the reassurance! I do really like them and glad they’re not considered a mumsnet no-no Grin. I think I would have got one anyway but I’ll probably like it better now! Off to check google for prices!
Ps yes I will have to constantly police it but I’m used to that with other items of furniture so hopefully ok!
