Replacement staircases- how much? NevilleJohnson?

Just thinking about this but considering replacing an old fashioned spindle type stair case with a more modern glass sided style with minimalist wood trim.

1 Does a make over include the actual stairs or not?
2 How do they remove the wood attached to the wall ? (Or can we just paint it?)
3 what sort of cost are we talking about? Simple staircase, no turn, straight up with about 12 stairs.
4 Anyone used Neville Johnson and are they £££?

We haven't used Neville Johnson (they are the ones in colour supplements?) but put in a new straight and simple staircase (£600 plus 1-2 days to remove old and fit new) and then £1400 for the glass. The stairs would have come to £1000 if in oak etc but we're going to carpet ours so have MDF and a painted bannister. We are East /South East if that helps

We used Midlands Stairparts, oak and glass. We got a joiner who removed all the wood and replaced it with oak, there is a straight run the a side return across the landing. It didn’t include the makeover of the stair steps, we wanted carpet to soften the look. £1,600 plus 2 days fitting. Then they need wax or varnish treatment so factor that in the cost. Love it, it has made a narrow hall feel wider and matches my oak and glass internal doors.

We had a bespoke staircase made for our very awkward stairs and connection to lending. Neville Johnson came round and refused to quote - too difficult. We have an
Oak staircase with oak handrails but it wasn’t cheap! SeveralThousand £££! However, it’s perfect! We can now get furniture up and down the stairs.

Thanks everyone.

We don't need the actual stairs replacing as such but just the stair rail / banister. I wasn't sure if they had to do the stairs as part of the job. They'd also need to replace ( or we'd paint) the wood that runs between each stair on the wall side .

The staircase couldn't be simpler. 12 stairs straight up, no turns, nothing.

We want a glass panel on the stairs with a wooden hand rail , but not in oak because the house has pine doors.

so it would be this kind of thing- just the stairs rails, no landing, and no wooden step at the bottom.

If it's just the glass plus rail, you'll probably find lots of glass companies that can do this. I found 4 locally when I was looking, and there are several online with videos on how to fit it all. We went with a company because nothing is quite Square in our house..

Did you come up with any helpful people, Duchess? We are just starting on our stair adventure. In hampshire, whereabouts are you?
