Tell me about a good washing machine!

I need a new washing machine, or maybe a washer / dryer. I'd like something with a quick cycle, old machine had a half hour quick wash which was great, current one which has broken hasn't got this feature. What washers do you think are good? Thanks

I just bought this. 3 different quick washes. 1400 spin. 10kg load.

Be wary if you get a Samsung, they have a tendency to jump around on non concrete floors. I wanted to avoid another Bosch as the last one we had was rubbish and only lasted just over 3 years, rinsing was terrible so bought a Samsung Ecobubble. The drum was a great size but the machine shook the entire house, knocked stuff off the dishwasher racks and burst out of the housing. Engineers that delivered it came back and re-balanced it, I used the balancing settings a few times and it was moved to re-balance it a few times. It then began moving forwards into the room. In the end we sent it back. Reviews - a lot of them say the same thing as they are tested on concrete floors and will not stay still on wooden ones.

Bosch, Which reports have it down as less economical with water which is surprising because rinsing is not good. However some have an allergy setting, and a 30 minute cycle, and extra rinse button and the option to adjust the spin speed. They also stay in place on a wooden floor.

I would have bought a Beko with the allergy wash but for some reason the AO people were unable to install it on our perfectly normal pipes. Might be worth a look.

Just to add, I wanted one that would take a duvet so was looking for a larger drum, which is also useful if you want to do fewer washloads, however they also adjust the water intake for a smaller load automatically.

Perhaps the smaller drum doesn't bounce around as much with the Samsung, but I certainly won't be getting another one, so many different programs, most of them not needed, and an annoying tune at the end of the cycle (which you can turn off otherwise a sledge hammer would be deployed). Sorry but a no for Samsung (made in Korea if it matters).

Beko is Turkish. Bosch is mainly Polish. German machines are a thing of the past mostly although aren''t Miele German now? I believe the quality has gone downhill on those in the last few years so probably made elsewhere now.

I love my Samsung Eco Bubble. It's the best washing machine I've ever had and I've had quite a few in the last 30 odd years.

Don't bother with a washer/dryer. They are notoriously shit at drying! IME anyway.

I've got a bosch and love it, it's not the cheapest bosch.
It Just gets things really clean.

I don't think o could justify the Bosch price tag based on 'it gets things really clean'

I have never had a washing machine that didn't clean clothes effectively.

mando12345 · 14/06/2018 15:09

@nottinghillgrey, I agree it should be a given that it gets this really clean! However I've had a hoover and a zanussi that didn't and I have read threads on here where people ask how to get blood stains out. I get red wine, blood or of my clothes without using any stain removers!

I also love my Samsung eco bubble.

We were told to be wary about machines with drum sizes over 8kg as there is more of a tendency for them to go wrong - due to not enough space for all the other gubbins that goes inside.
