Though haven't told anyone yet but also ordered bright sunshine yellow velvet covers for sofas... For summer look, plus another colour that really suits me and dogs :)

theredjellybean · 02/08/2018 13:27

Oh and bobkate... We have knocked 6k of holden price by going to DIY kitchens... That is with no compromising on design at all.

Whattodowithaminute · 02/08/2018 14:59

So excited I feel a little sick! Back to the house for the first time in a fortnight and the walls of the extension are up, the stud work is up for the bathrooms and first fix plumbing complete! Whoop whoop!

lingua that’s a painful amount I have to find as extra for painting and decorating.

bobkate I agree I like the first kitchen.

jelly I love the sound of the colour. Mother sounds painful though... I try and give my parents as little
Information about the house as possible, luckily they don’t live close by so aren’t popping by-I know they are desperate to though...

MyNameIsJane · 02/08/2018 16:57

Bobkate - kitchen one for me too!

@theredjellybean - I now need a pic of your dogs, just to ensure you’re going with the right colour grey. Wink

MyNameIsJane · 02/08/2018 17:01

@sdaisy26

I notice that you have the hob opposite the seating area. We are going for this too. I was worried that the space between seating and hob would be too small and wanted the area wider but kitchen designer said the width like yours would be perfectly fine. How are you finding it?

KitNCaboodle · 02/08/2018 17:14

Hi! I’m late to the party and having a loft conversion. About half way through the build and it’s really taking shape. Still not got the hang of getting up and showered and going to the loo before the builders get here in the mornings.

sdaisy26 · 02/08/2018 17:25

@MyNameIsJane

The width is about 300mm past the hob (total width 900). It's fine. We have an induction hob so it doesn't get that hot - I wouldn't want it with gas for eg. Also we have plenty of width - the whole run of seating is almost 3m so quite a lot of space, I just sit the chn on the further away chairs when cooking. Plus we have our main table elsewhere in the room so plenty of options. Much wider would have been a challenge re needing extra support for the overhang etc so as a secondary seating area this works fine. I prefer it over the sink with all my washing up stacking up which was the other option!

Sdaisy? Is that an induction job intuit peninsular? If yes would you mind showing/telling me what extractor u have please?

theredjellybean · 02/08/2018 17:44

Here is Dd1.. Looking at the kitchen choices and tiny swatch of velvet for "his" new sofas.. Dd2 is identical twin but very shy...

Dd=darling dog in this case... The darling daughters are elsewhere and not redheads :(

minipie · 02/08/2018 18:02

Hello may I join please?

We haven't started any work yet, but have planning permission and builders lined up to start 1st Oct. We are doing a loft extension, new roof, kitchen extension, creating a new bathroom and refurb of literally everything else 😱 this also means we are moving out as the builders convinced me it would add lots of ££ if we stayed. Plus we have two small very curious kids who will inevitably play with anything dangerous. It's going to take about 7-8 months.

I feel very unready, we have nowhere to rent yet, I've got a kitchen design (mostly) but no kitchen company chosen yet, haven't worked out where to get our sliding doors and skylight, have chosen no floors or fittings...

Any tips on what to tackle first most welcome!

ps bobkate yes kitchen 1!

pps bean what a beautiful dog and he sets off your kitchen beautifully :)

MyNameIsJane · 02/08/2018 18:50

Thank you @sdaisy26 that’s really good to know! (I’m now considering making our island longer)

@theredjellybean - thank you for indulging me with a dog picture. Gorgeous dog! (And I believe they will enhance the kitchen no end!)

MyNameIsJane · 02/08/2018 18:52

@minipie my friend’s advice was to source all the things you’ll need for the build before it happens. Then you are not forced into making haste purchases.

theredjellybean · 02/08/2018 18:54

Thank you.. Norbert also sends his appreciations for your kind words, he is pleased that his human mummy has obviously designed the new kitchen clearly to show case his handsomness

sdaisy26 · 02/08/2018 19:15

@897654321abcvrufhfgg

We don't have one. Controversial I know but I don't like them. It's a big room with lots of opening windows/doors and we don't do lots of frying. Interestingly 3 out of the 5 kitchen designers I spoke to also don't have them in their own kitchens!

897654321abcvrufhfgg · 02/08/2018 19:25

Hubbie is insisting on one as we wouldn’t b able to sell the house without one. Was hoping you had some amazing discreet one! I hate them and due to low ceilings am worried about the effect it will have on the new kitchen view!!

minipie · 02/08/2018 19:34

8976 we will be having hob in the island and a Westin Stratus ceiling extractor (one of the few things I have actually chosen!) which sits flush in the ceiling so no view obstruction at all.

MyNameIsJane I would love to do that in theory but with 2 months till start date, a whole house worth to choose and 2 small DC I don't think it's possible!

DustandRubble · 02/08/2018 19:44

If you look further up this thread you may find @Baxdream’s amazing island extractor 897etc. It’s beautiful.

I didn’t want an island extractor but having put ours in it actually ties the kitchen together a bit. And we needed it for building control because our kitchen has moved. I think you can also put an extractor in a wall though.

OP posts:
DustandRubble · 02/08/2018 19:45

Also you could look at downdraft extractors that come up out of the worktop.

OP posts:
4yearsnosleep · 02/08/2018 20:11

We're going with a downdraft extractor from myappliances.com great price and a 2 year labour, 5 year parts guarantee. £369 compared to £1k plus, I'll be happy even if it only lasts a few years! Also getting the 60cm wine fridge from there although it's not as big a saving, still same guarantees/spec as more expensive brands

newhousestress · 02/08/2018 20:51

Thanks @VanellopeVonSchweetz99 and @Whattodowithaminute I'm working my way through the threads and taking notes! I don't know yet about architect vs technician, it's a fairly simple extension (definitely not a Grand Design) but I suppose we would like some ideas about what would work.

Baxdream · 02/08/2018 21:07

Aww thanks! I love mine and it's a light to give lovely subtle light in the evening. They do it in silver or white too
You will need one of sorts for building regs (even if it's just a small bathroom type one that you can then remove

theredjellybean · 02/08/2018 21:10

Bax.. What color is the paint on your walls? I currently have 11 different tester pots and still not found the perfect pale grey

Baxdream · 02/08/2018 21:28

I actually can't remember it's a valspar one

sdaisy26 · 02/08/2018 21:29

You do need an extractor if building a new room (so extending). If in an existing room you just can't make it worse than it already was - luckily this was the case for our room.

@baxdream yours is the nicest I've seen.
