Washing Machine - locate in peninsular?

We’re just finalising our kitchen design and the washing machine is proving the most difficult thing to place. Unfortunately we don’t have a utility.

We’re hoping to have a sticky out peninsular. Is it possible to put the washing machine in the corner bit with the door opening the other side of the peninsula? All the measurements work but the kitchen people have just looked at me like I’m an idiot! Hopefully the picture will help.

Thanks!

@onepoundmeals on Instagram built his own kitchen and did this (there’s pics in his saved story highlights). Seems like a great way to avoid an awkward corner cabinet to me!

What space does the door open into? If it’s a dining area, would this be annoying for hand wash items that you then spin dry? Would it be intrusive noise in this area?

Personally I would put it under the sink or near the sink so I could soak something for stain removal. I think moving it miles away from the sink into another area just isn’t helpful. In my opinion of course. What do you have under the sink? Looks like you have space for a washing machine and dishwasher.

Thank you. It will open into the dining area. I very very rarely transfer anything from the sink to the washing machine so I didn’t think that would be a problem.

Under the sink there isn’t enough room for both the dishwasher and a washing machine - because of all the fittings for the sink.

is the floor concrete?

Where do you plan the plumbing to run?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/06/2018 13:32

Perhaps you could put the dishwasher there, facing into the dining room, and the drawers for plates, cups and cutlery also facing into the dining room beside the dishwasher. It would make it really quick to load/unload the dishwasher and to lay the table.

I used to have my dishwasher inside a corner in a u-shaped kitchen and it was a total pain in the neck as when the door was open it blocked off two cabinets and made lots of the counter unreachable.

I think it looks an excellent idea, as long as the plumbing works. You'd need enough "fall" for the drainage which could be a problem if it's a long way from the outside wall.

PigletJohn Yes the floor is concrete. The washing machine is currently in the same space but opens into the kitchen (no peninsula yet) so the plumbing is still there. We will just be turning the washing machine round by 90 degrees.

Just thinking again. Would the problem be there is no end panel to rest the worktop onto?

I did the same in reverse to you - washing machine under the sink, dishwasher where your washing machine is to go. Worked fine.

Your kitchen fitter can fit a bit of wood along the wall to support the counter top.
