Help holes all over tv wall!!

Hi, dh has been trying to mount a tv bracket on our wall. After multiple attempts and changes of height due to bad walls we now have About 12 holes in the wall and no where left to mount it. He tried poly filler, grip filler, rawl plugs, long screws and metal rawl plugs you name it. I feel so upset because now we have a giant tv on floor that can’t go up and can’t go on stand. I have a young toddler and need this sorted out. What can we do??

We used these to mount one on our walls. They were fab.

But they're for cavity walls. I can't understand if its not cavity wall why stuff isn't staying in.

Thanks. It’s a hollow wall I think.

That’s what we have used from Homebase but they didn’t work. Some wouldn’t open in the wall. We ended up with only one out of four that did. We’re absolutely demented and shattered

perhaps the wall is plasterboard. The plasterboard might be mounted on a wooden frame of studs, or it might be stuck to a brick or block wall with blobs of plaster.

You have to find out how it is made before choosing the fixing method. You can poke a pencil through some of the holes to measure how deep the gap is behind the plasterboard.

How old is the house?

If built prior to about 1945 it's possible some of the partition walls may be lath and plaster, attached to wooden studs.

Glue?!!

CiderwithBuda · 06/06/2018 08:58

Glue does not sound safe! You need to figure out what type of wall it is.

wowfudge · 06/06/2018 10:08

DP uses those really long screws with plugs and drills into the brick behind the plasterboard where we have dot and dab walls. You need a long drill bit though. There are also special fixings for plasterboard walls which work by spreading the weight. these, for example but we haven't tried them.

SubtitlesOn · 06/06/2018 10:18

What kind of glue did you use?

How big is TV?

PasstheStarmix · 06/06/2018 12:58

Thanks wow, never seen those. We used rawl plugs, really long screws and this special glue called gorilla epoxy on two of the fixings as had to pack acouple. Don’t worry guys it’s not an arts and craft glue, it’s a special super strong epoxy made for this type of thing. Infact the tv bracket is now so secure I don’t think I’ll be able to get it off again, I can’t see myself ever wanting to though!!

The rawl plugs are 10 and dh drilled really deep. I have a new build so the walls aren’t great! Sometimes I wish I’d bought an old build just for nice strong walls!

Thanks PigletJohn, there’s not many studs in the wall, we think one but it’s where the electrical wiring is so we won’t go near it. We fixed a stand suitable for hollow walls that’s didnt need to be fixed to studs.

I think those special fixings were on Dragon's Den. I might be wrong though.

They look great, I’ve made a note of those for future use. Thanks.
