Where to buy lightbulbs for all the new lights I’ve just replaced?

I’m sure online will be cheaper than In store.
I need about 15 in total so if I can cut costs I’d like to.

Any recommendations?

There are lots of variables - are you looking for LED bulbs or something else?

ihatethecold · 05/06/2018 16:02

Yes all LED lights
some E14's and more E27's of various guises.

They are so much cheaper on Amazon but im worried about the quality of them.

there are specialist online suppliers, but high street prices for the more common types are now quite reasonable. Get a feel for it on big retailers example1 example2

Avoid unbranded ones which may be very poor. Own brands from an established retailer, including Ikea, should be fine. Osram and Aldi come out well on Which. Philips are good quality but might be twice the price.

LEDs are cheapest to run but CFLs are almost as cheap, and are cheaper to buy. They need to warm up so are good in hall, landing and porch lights that will be on for long periods.

Halogens are not cheap to run.

Higher power LEDs, especially if small, tend to have shorter lives as the internal components get hotter.

Dimmables are more expensive to buy and to run.

I expect you will prefer "warm white" rather than "cool white"

on lightbulb direct website it will be £55 for 12 bulbs of differing sizes. 5 are for outside lighting.
quidco gives me 8% cash back.

I will look on your links Pigletjohn, Thanks

We've bought reasonably priced branded LED bulbs from Screwfix and Energizer ones on eBay from a UK seller.

specialsubject · 05/06/2018 21:00

poundland. who may even pay tax.

IJustHadToNameChange · 05/06/2018 21:04

Toolstation, Screwfix and Lightbulbs Direct have been my go tos before now.

AgedTawnyPort · 05/06/2018 21:05

I always buy Phillips bulbs, they might cost a bit more but they last for years. I have recently moved and have bought them from screw fix and Amazon for the types screw fix didn't have.

I bought 13 Phillips LED bulbs, for £55 last week (screw fix) but had to go to Amazon for the retro filament things in Phillips LED - £7 each.

I have a friend who supplies light bulbs - a family run company. They sell online through www.lamps-on-line.com. They may be able to help. Amazon is brilliant, but is strangling small businesses, and going direct gives more profit to the business owners. And I can assure you, the company pays UK taxes

AgedTawnyPort · 06/06/2018 06:05

Helping small businesses is admirable seeme but it has to stack up financially.

Comparison here and here.

I bought the latter on brand, price and free prime delivery.

I know it must be hard trading in today’s world but shopping habits have changed massively.

I do support my local shops - even my local screwfix is keeping people in my town in employment, but I couldn’t justify £2.50 per bulb plus delivery from an internet supplier.

I always buy Phillips, old habit from the days of compact fluorescents when they were the best make.
The first led bulb i bought from them failed a few years back, constant flashing. It was a few years old. I emailed them and they posted me the updated equivalent bulb straight away from the Netherlands, no questions asked. So I'm still a loyal customer!
