Kitchen units - what colour??

I’m rubbish with posh ain’t colours

Having a new kitchen built which will have units and a large island. White top and probably wooden floor.

We want to keep the room as light as possible

I love all the dark coloured units but fear they will quickly go out of fashion (plus the light room thing)

any Ideas??

If i could choose any it would e a light gloss grey. I know that mn'ers have a deep hatred for anything grey inside the home but I loves it

I would go cream. It is light and always "in". You can always bring in strong colour with accessories. I saw some really nice open shelves filled with dark blue and white mugs plus some plants in a kitchen yesterday and they looked great. The kitchen itself was a narrow galley kitchen which had white units.

Now that’s a thought. The kitchen is going to have lower drawers either side of cooker (which is dark blue incidentally) and open shelves above.

So could do something w shelves. Realistically they will have plants and tat on them

Have some darker artworks on the wall. Mosaic pictures a good in kitchens.

We've gone light grey (diy kitchens dove grey). With white quartz worktop & oak floor. Shaker style wooden doors.

We deliberated because grey is so in right now it is bound to date but just didn't like anything cream / white as much (despite putting off white in a new kitchen in last house only 18months ago). The kitchen arrived yesterday and it is a lovely colour, very muted but with depth.

I agree with you that the dark / two tone look is so everywhere atm that it may well look old quickly.

Classic white cabinets and white tops with wooden floors is a simple and elegant choice. Then add colour in the walls, as these are easier to repaint when you feel like a change . If you go for shelving, don't overload it. Less on shelves looks so much better.

I don’t like white, it looks too clinical for me. I like wooden tops and cream cupboards but I also like some of the pastel shades for cupboards like pale blue or turquoise.

Turquoise could be a winner. Very pale turquoise

when you say "units" do you mean the doors? Or do you mean the carcases?

Ramona75 · 07/06/2018 08:27

Go with a light grey door and get the units in grey too. You save loads by not having to buy end panels Smile. Although they seem to have about 4 different grey type units that could all work quite well here.

I chose cream but I wish now that I had gone for pale turquoise.

Mine are called mussel, they're not cream and not grey, but a lovely soft light stone colour. I love them. Cream was too yellow toned and grey too dingy in what is a dark room and white....well that wasn't an option with two kids!!!
