Reginox copper or black stainless sink?

Jetteage · 03/06/2018 00:46

I’d had my heart set on Vola taps but while searching for cheaper alternatives came across the Reginox brand making identical taps and matching sinks.

Has anyone on here had experience with this brand in either color? Am concerned black will always show water marks, but it is the better match for our kitchen. Also concerned both might scratch too much?

Images not clickable but copper is so achingly trendy that they'll be out of fashion and a fraction of the price within the year.

Jetteage · 03/06/2018 02:15

Is copper really that trendy? I was worried about the black dating, and hoped the copper might not show marks as much. Chrome/Stainless steel looks terrible with our worktops so that is not an option. Had white in past and never doing that again.

What are the worktops? I'm intrigued. I can't say that I'm keen on either - both are currently fashionable. I know someone who has had a copper sink for about 30 years though.

The worktops and splashback are Neolith Calacatta which have a taupe tinge in the vein. We have very pale grey and dark wood cabinets, Miele smartline hob and appliances in black (virtually no stainless
Steel at all in the kitchen as no handles either). The black sink and tap seem to be a better match. I’ve hoped to use copper for a bathroom for years but the styles available were never a good match. The worktop fabricators sent through about a dozen past jobs done in Neolith Calacatta and I didn’t like the look of the stainless steel sink in any of them - doesn’t pick up the colour and seems very bland. I do like the look of the copper and black in similar kitchens. I guess an undercount sink and tap can be changed if they seem drastically out of date by the time we sell. I’m mainly concerned with practicality and which is the best match. Thanks for your feedback!

Undermount sink that was meant to read.
We have previously had and not liked white ceramic (impossible to clean), corian (melted after a guest placed a hot saucepan pan in it), quartz (chipped). I like the deep and square shape that only seems available in stainless steel. We don’t want to go with Neolith because of the risk of chipping and cost of repair. We are aware of the risk of chipping at the sink edge with Neolith but if this happens we could then place an inset sink (this model even) to hide the chips. I am open to any suggestions. We need to order a sink soon so that we can template.

I understand your rationale but would choose stainless steel every time because of practicality and looks. Particularly with a black sink, you're making a statement with the sink, not the worktop. I wouldn't want the sink to stand out like that. I dislike black (or red) in kitchens, but each to their own!

wowfudge · 03/06/2018 16:16

Don't go with black in a hard water area.

Jetteage · 03/06/2018 16:30

I think in our particular kitchen and being a single bowl undermounted sink it won’t be that obvious - it’s the tap match that is the issue and I’d hoped the tap would compliment and bring out the vein in the splashback (which is what we want to be the main feature - the kitchen is otherwise quite neutral and plain). Would it look terrible to have a black tap and stainless steel bowl? I am terrible at imagining how things might look. I do personally like the look of the copper and black but if they constantly look dirty it would drive me mad.
Thanks so much for your help!

I'd match the tap and the sink tbh.

4yearsnosleep · 03/06/2018 19:18

I'd go for the copper & I think it'll look gorgeous. We're doing our kitchen soon and my plan is to make it what we love rather than care about trends as we'll be living here for years

Jetteage · 03/06/2018 23:11

4yearsnosleep in part this is what has lead us here - we very nearly spent the same amount on very bland and boring just to be safe, but have tried to go with materials that we absolutely love and want to look at every day (with consideration to cleaning). I also hope that given the increase in the range of options across so many brands these days that over time these will also become regular options like stainless steel, and less of a “fad”. I only fear that copper as a choice is driven by my strong preference for it unrelated to the other elements of our kitchen - we have very little stainless steel in the kitchen but have no copper at all (although it does pick up some of the colour from the vein in our worktop and splashback). Thanks for your positive encouragement and good luck with your project!

Personally I hate stainless steel sinks and opted for a modern ceramic instead.

I've seen fantastic granite sinks and concrete sinks too if you have the budget.

Rap wise I love the Arne Jacobsen in the fantastic colours.

Nothing better than something so boring being a bit more interesting

Jetteage · 03/06/2018 23:42

Springmachine can I please ask what you mean by modern ceramic sink?

I am very hesitant about anything likely to
chip as we regularly have (heavy handed) family members staying and my children are also cooking a lot too these days. I don’t want the same Calacatta Neolith for our sink and bit overwhelmed at matching in another colour in addition to a tap. Any recommendations would be welcome though!

As for taps we have used Vola by Arne Jacobson in our ensuite bathroom. My family thought we were a bit insane but they are simply stunning and we couldn’t be happier with them. The Reginox tap range have less colour options but look very similar.
