Damp!

We're buying a house and survey says it has rising damp and penetrating damp. It's an old Victorian detached house that has been a bit unloved and uncared for and has now been renovated by developers. They had it tanked and a new damp proof course done in March - how long should it take to dry out if the work has been effective?! Surveyor is recommending a full damp and timber survey which we will have done but wondering if the problem has already been solved really and patience is required?!

The tanking has probably just encapsulated the problem and made it worse. With old buildings you need subfloor ventilation to let the damp air flow through and out of the house. Check the level of the ground outside relative to the floor level and see if there are any air bricks. Is there a basement?
