Victorian or new build?

We live in a lovely Victorian terrace, although parking is a nightmare. I have always loved older houses.
Just dropped my DD to her friends house which is a new build. They have off road parking, a purpose built park and lots of green space around them, and my DD loves going there. I have come away thinking how lovely it would be to live there! It seems so clean and new and quiet, and makes our busy road look tired and dirty and too full of parked cars- something i never thought i would say!

What has come over me?
Can someone please talk some sense into me? Confused

It's all personal taste. If you have the money to maintain older houses and like them then go for it, nothing wrong with it.

Similarly there's nothing wrong with new builds. We live in a new build area and I love it for the reasons you stated. I like cleanliness and there are lots of parks for DD to play in.

I also like older houses but the cost of upkeep puts me off. We're in a pretty big 3 bed new build and we're only 72 a month for gas and electric! It's fab!

My DS has a beautiful victorian house, it is stunning but is a money pit, needs lots of ongoing maintenance. Takes a long time to get warm in the winter. He has made lots of money on it, bought when it was in good order but done up in an old fashioned style. He's updated it in keeping with the period without spending a lot of money.
Our house is modern, we have our own drive, costs little to maintain and heat, gets warm really quickly when the heating comes on. We have made money on it and it will sell quickly if we need to but it hasn't appreciated in value as much as a victorian and although lovely I prefer the high ceilings and character of my son's house!
