Replacement windows- colour crisis

We are currently getting quotes for replacing our very, very old windows. We’re hoping to go down the aluminium route and might be getting carried away in the world of Ral colour options!

The whole street is white upvc and my dh thinks changing colour frames would make us stick out. He also thinks potential buyers would only want dark grey. We have very red bricks and I’m favouring a lighter, slightly olive grey but would we live to regret it? Is this just a passing fad that would prematurely date our house (1930s semi) or if we stuck with white would we cry every time a house in the street got around to replacing theirs with something more interesting!!??

🤔

I think the fad for grey is awful personally. It looks very industrial and as if someone has put primer on waiting for the paint. As it's a fad it will look dated in a few years. I would stick with white as it's neutral and inoffensive.

You'll need to consider planning permission if you change colour/material of your windows also.

You may want to think about what the windows will look like on the inside as well as the outside. (It's often more expensive to have different colours for the inside and outside so frames often come in one colour.)

Our windows are matched to Farrow and Ball satin slipper, which is pretty classic but looks like a definite colour. It goes pretty well with most colours, but looked absolutely awful with a particular shade of blue we wanted to paint one bedroom.
