Nasty neighbour issues

Had loads of problems with upstairs neighbour over the years. He's loud and aggressive. Very hot headed. Not to mention stupid and idiotic. Caused lots of (accidental but due to his negligence) to my property and threatened members of my family. In short he's been an absolute fucking nightmare.

Usually I don't see him that much as he's out a lot. We both own our own homes. He's just moved his new girlfriend in. I've only seen her once face to face and she just stared at me (bet he's told her I'm a bitch) so I said hi and so did she then I went inside.

Anyway, the latest issue is a small one but still. He's been putting bags of rubbish in my bin. I discovered this the other day and mentioned to another neighbour who I get on with and he chuckled and said "Oh it'll be Nasty neighbour". I said NN has his own bloody bins and should use them. Mind you I've never once seen him put his bins out, and I've lived here a long time. Seriously. I have no idea where he puts his rubbish.

I could have just left it. But it was the principal of the thing. And I don't want to come across like a doormat. And what if I had more rubbish I needed to use the bin for? So I pulled out the bags and left them in front of his bin. They weren't even in the correct bin for recycling, he'd just dumped all his shit in my bin. I was going to put it in his own bin but noticed that his was full to the brim, but even so. And he didn't even ask me first. Cheeky bastard expecting me to take his rubbish out!

When I got home that night the bags were on top of his bin. The next morning they'd disappeared but were not in my bin. But now they're back again, bins are due to be collected tomorrow! So again I hauled out the massive bags and left them in front of his bin. It's so annoying.

Part of me just wants to throw it into his garden, it's overgrown enough so he probably wouldn't notice. But that's not great for the environment. So I just left it beside his bin again. They've just returned home and I could hear him cursing a bit, so got slightly paranoid but perhaps it was about something else. But still, he scares me. And even worse he's now got a female on his side who might not hold back on retaliating.

Also I know you can get locks for bins but imagine that would be a faff. I wish I could afford to move :(

The faff is worth it honestly! My neighbours where I used to live kept filling my bin. They weren't approachable (aggressive drug addicts) so I drilled two holes in the bin and popped a chain and padlock through. It sounds petty and silly but it was such a relief not having to worry if my bin would be filled or having to move bags of god knows what out my bin. I got teased a bit by a couple of the other people in the block of flats so ended up taking it off for a day... filled again by the night time! Back on went the lock.

It's horrible having a neighbour who does stuff like this Flowers It'd be worth putting a lock on for you to know you can use your bin and to make you less of a target for any potential aggression at moving his bags back.

Dump it on his door step.

Stop letting what you imagine put you off reality.

Investigate them, try them, problem solved.

Thanks everyone. I think dumping it on his doorstop would enrage him. He's a chancer. I once got a new fence put up and he attached a couple of hanging baskets on his side! Mind you they eventually got swallowed up by the weed infested cesspit that is his "garden" so I don't know why he even bothered.

I'll look into the locks, thanks. Are councils okay with people doing this to bins? All is quiet up there now but he was thumping around for a bit. Mind you he's like that anyway.

We used to have a vexatious neighbour like this - he was a drug addict and severely mentally unwell, but also a pain in the arse. His mum owned the flat.

Eventually, the manager of the leasehold 'committee' (or similar) set up a camera, caught him breaking the lease and the law and he was served notice to move out.

Do you have someone who could do this?

kaitlinktm · 30/05/2018 06:46

Is it a wheelie bin? If it is you could get a gravity lock - the council wouldn't mind that I wouldn't think. They seem relatively expensive. Otherwise you could get one like this.

I would definitely try a lock out though.
