Neighbours overgrown garden

My next door neighbours garden is extremely overgrown, think very overgrown trees (well over 2m high), bushes, weeds, nettles etc. They literally can't step out of their back door as it's so overgrown. This didn't bother me until recently when the trees have grown massively and are leaning over into my garden, blocking the sun, the weeds are now starting to grow through the fence into my garden too.

Is there anything I can do about this or do I just have to put up with it and cut down whatever comes on to my side? I don't know if they rent or own of that makes any difference.

My neighbour too. Elderly lady with mental health problems. She can’t even open her back door because it’s so overgrown - but she is very private; there’s no way she would consent to us doing anything to help tidy it up (though honestly, you would need mutiple skips £££s to clear it).
You are within your rights to chop anything in terms of stems and branches that cross over the boundary. Not much more you can do, apart from enjoy the nature reserve and the peace and quiet. One day you’ll have ‘normal’ neighbours and it will feel very noisy in comparison!

Yes that’s one thing, they are very quiet!! Just looks awful and obviously it’s more work for me as it’s stsrting to come on to my property!

We have this problem - bindweed is the bane of my life at this time of year Angry but they are at least happy for me to go and pull it up/spray it on their side. How gracious. They own and aren't elderly. Just lazy.

All you can do is cut down any overhang and if it us rented, contact the letting agent about it. Or offer a gardener?!

If the property is rented, see if you can get in touch with the landlord.
My property was rented out, the lease stated that the tenant was responsible for the garden. I had no idea that it was so overgrown until I wanted to renovate. If I had known, I would have made sure that something was done sooner.
The property was rented out through an agent.

How would I find out if it’s rented?

We have the same. The weeds come through. The brambles have broken our fence when they have been ripped out before (she usually gets someone in once or twice a year to tackle it). It's a right pain.

You can talk to the council if you think there is a hygiene or safety issue (rats, fire etc).

JLbaby · 29/05/2018 07:45

We definitely have a fox problem around here, the garden probably doesn’t help. I dread to think what animals are living in their garden!!

Animals! Living outside with nature and stuff! God forbid...

JLbaby · 29/05/2018 08:51

Yes, foxes, rats etc - vermin.

Speak to the neighbours? Have they moved in recently, are there new people in every year or so? Google the address and see if anything comes up. Do you know their name? You could look it up at Land Registry and that tells you who owns the house.

Annoying, but offer to do it for them? share the cost of a gardener?
