Value of Ofsted Ratings

Interested if others put a lot of value on Ofsted ratings of local schools when looking to buy? Does a house very close to an “Outstanding” school attract a premium over a “Good” school? Or is it less about a price premium and more about attractiveness when selling perhaps?

Aware that ratings can change every 3-4 years, so you can’t put too much stock on it though

As a teacher, I wouldn’t go based on ratings. They can change so fast, aside from anything else! If schools were going to be an important factor in my choice of house, I’d visit the catchment schools and form my own judgments based on conversations with the students, my own observations of how calm/purposeful the atmosphere was, and how good the published results were.

Also, there’s talk in the news of replacing the 1-4 rating system with a binary pass/fail system as soon as next year...

I would visit the schools to get a feel for them.

There is an outstanding school near us which hasn't been inspected for nearly a decade that is certainly not outstanding now judging by their results!

We're pretty much over the road from a "Good" school.
It's shit. It's so shit that we removed DD1 after a year and have been followed by a fair few other parents since then.
I pay minimal heed to Ofsted ratings - I might read the report to get an actual feel for what's going on but the ratings - bollocks to that.

If I had known about my kids' current school though I'd have jumped to get a house in catchment - but it's very low profile, just carries on being amazing, but doesn't make a big fuss about it. Think it's got a Good but it's not trumpeted all over the website, letterhead and banners on the school railings.
