Reasonable for a new combi boiler?

For a 2 bed 1 bath house we've been quoted £3k to replace old combi boiler with new combi including flush of the system.

Does that sound about the going rate?

We paid that to have a new boiler and also to have it relocated so all new pipe work and existing taken out. 4 bed house

BabyBed · 23/05/2018 14:28

Depends on the brand of boiler, there's quite a variety out there. Did they breakdown parts and labour costs for you?

BabyBed · 23/05/2018 14:29

Break down, rather than breakdown costs. It would be terrible if the new boiler didn't work 😂

dingit · 23/05/2018 14:30

Just been quoted the same

Caroian · 23/05/2018 15:19

Sounds reasonable but what sort of boiler? Some are much better than others!

springmachine · 23/05/2018 15:24

It was for a vailant 28kw

Wow that sounds a lot!

keepingbees · 23/05/2018 16:10

We paid £1.5k for a new combi boiler to be supplied and installed last year in our 3 bed, 2 bathroom detached. This also included disconnecting and removing 2 big water tanks as the previous boiler wasn't a combi. We went for a mid-range boiler recommended by our plumber and so far it's been great.
Obviously the cost of the actual boiler is a factor but that does sound a lot.

Talia99 · 24/05/2018 17:47

I agree this sounds a lot. Mine was £3,800 with the boiler being moved to another room, a new flue being installed and extensive additional and awkward piping to connect up to the existing pipes.

Is this a quote from British Gas? If it is, you can almost definitely get it significantly cheaper from a local firm.

BerryBad · 24/05/2018 17:48

Wouldn't have thought it should cost more than 1.5-2k?

LightAsTheBreeze · 24/05/2018 17:53

We had British Gas and it was about £2800 to change the boiler, we could have got it cheaper but BG done the job very quickly and it was worth paying a bit extra for the convenience rather than have to sort out which plumber might be best

BertyFlanter · 24/05/2018 19:39

What's the warranty on the boiler? I'd always recommend a Worcester but a valiant is a close second. A Worcester will come with a 10 year guarantee. The cost depends on where in the country you are, but around £2.5k for a combi to combi swap, exc vat.

springmachine · 31/05/2018 15:56

Just had another quote over £3k. This ones given a breakdown so not too sure if I'm being ripped off or not.

This guy charges £145 per hour for standard non emergency call outs 😣

Reasonable for a new combi boiler?

@BerryBad that's exactly what I guessed at, and I can't afford to spend anything over £2k and that will wipe us out financially as it is.

That quote of £3240 looks on the high side I would have though from an independent plumber, that is more the sort of quote you would get from BG who did a very good job on ours but are known for being on the high side price wise. Might be worth having BG and Eon round for a quote anyway and then a plumber should be less. With BG though what they quote is what you pay, with some plumbers if things crop up during fitting you could pay more than the quote.

WhyBird2k · 31/05/2018 17:00

Have you Googled what the same boiler, or a Worcester boiler, would cost if you bought it yourself and just paid him for labour and other parts? We brought our quote down by £1000 when we went back and told the plumber we would provide our own.

springmachine · 31/05/2018 18:11

I didn't realise but Eon do fixer price quotes online including installation.

Their price was £2.6k

I just had a look around and found another company online offering fixed price quotes called boxt.co.uk and their price was £1795 inc vat!

Very tempted but it now seems too good to be true after the other quotes I've had...

All these prices are for Worcester Bosch

We paid £1800 6 weeks ago.
We are friends with the heating engineer and he gave us 20% off with a friends discount.
Think it was £2250 without a discount.
Was a Baxi boiler tho, which I think are around £1000 mark so maybe cheaper than valiant.

Sue840 · 31/05/2018 21:04

That’s expensive , would expect between 1.5-2k assuming your putting boiler back in the same place. We paid 1.6k for new valiant plus a flush with 7 year guarantee.

Schroedingerscatagain · 01/06/2018 10:22

We just had a vogue combi with mag filter, system flush fitted 2 weeks ago

It has a 10 year guarantee and was £2,300 fitted

johnd2 · 02/06/2018 11:36

If it really includes a power flush I'd expect a higher cost. Normal flush is just running a hose pipe basically. Then draining the system when it's hot and refilling.
Power flush uses chemicals and hot water and a separate pump to dissolve anything untoward and filter out any debris on the way round.
