A couple of years ago a friend kindly gave me a Franke Ascona one and a half sink. I am now about to redo kitchen with laminate worktop but been told that you cannot use undermount sink with laminate? Is this correct? Thank you

Yes it's correct because the worktop has to be cut out and the sink is usually glued to the underside to provide a seal. The cut out edges of the laminate would need to be covered to prevent the core of mdf or similar from swelling when water gets on it. Impossible to get a 100% waterproof seal with the normal edging strips that are used. Plus the underside of laminate is usually bare MDF, so you've got an even more vulnerable to water damage surface.

It'll probably be cheaper to sell the sink on eBay as cash on collection, buyer collects and buy a suitable sink than change to a suitable worksurface.

My first thought was no for the reasons pp has said. Using the UM sink you have would involve fully sealing the cut edges and sticking edging on. There are sealants and adhesives that would allow this to be possible in theory.

A quick Google has found UM sinks that can be used with laminate tops. So if you're set on this combo, you could sell your sink and buy one of those.
