Help with order of work - kitchen first or conservatory? French doors? I'm clueless!

I keep going round in circles on this, so turning to mumsnet (as usual).
We moved about a year ago into a house with a pretty old (20 years maybe?) kitchen which needs updating and redoing to maximise storage. It has enough room for a small table, though would be a better room if I didn't need the table there.

I'd like to turn one of the two windows in the room into a door into the garden.
I would actually like this to be a door into a conservatory/extension, which could hold a larger table and a sofa.

I'm not planning to knock it all through as I quite like separate spaces so family members aren't all on top of each other.
If I decide to do it all at once I'd have to wait a fair bit for the money.
But I could afford to do one bit now.
Should I - put the door in first, even though for now there's no room behind it? (I think even if never another room I'd still like the door for the view).
Do the door and kitchen at the same time?
Do the extra room first? If it's done after would it "damage" the new kitchen?

I'd also love a loo under the stairs (in small utility room) as we only have one. That's next to the kitchen - maybe I should get a quote for doing it then, since the floor would be disturbed anyway.
Would anyone like to come round and sort my house out for me?!!

They are all quite separate jobs so in theory you could do them in any order. I think I’d start with the kitchen and door together (to get the layout right) plus toilet plumbing. Then you can do the conservatory when finances allow

Thanks for that. I think you are probably right!

It would be good to know for sure we would extend as then I could design a kitchen without a dining table - but not worth the risk if we end up not affording it (or decided to move, for example).

We are doing something similar. After much thought, we decided to do kitchen and French doors first. We will live with this for a while to see if we really need the extra room (conservatory). If we feel we do, then we will. But maybe we will be happy with just the patio.

Have a look at the freestanding kitchen companies eg Unfitted. If you like that style, you might be able to design your kitchen so it has a table for now but you could slot in an extra stand-alone work area or dresser later.

I would also go with kitchen and door first. You'll want an external door between kitchen and conservatory anyway. But I might plan to keep the table in the kitchen long term as I wouldn't want to heat up the conservatory for every mealtime in the winter.

Thank you both, that’s really helpful. Time to get onto kitchen planning I think!
