Short term lets? Hotels?!

Currently in the process of buying, but our chain still isn't complete.

Unfortunately, we've just been told that our rental lease will end at the end of June. (We'd previously been given permission to stay on, but a 'confusion with the paperwork' on the landlord's end has made that an impossibility now).

We're thinking the sensible thing to do is try to find a short-term let for a month or two, but there is nothing around! Even Air BnBs are super expensive.

What does everyone else do in this situation? Shall we try to negotiate a price with a local hotel/B&B? Does anyone have any tips or experiences?

I emailed everyone I knew and posted on Facebook to all my FB friends (and asked them to share) plus on local FB noticeboard groups for the 3 closest towns. Explained my situation and what help I needed and had quite a few replies. Many didn’t come to anything but it paid off and got me just what I needed.

If you are on an assured short hold tenancy, you should be given two months notice minimum otherwise the landlord is acting illegally.

Put a message out in village / local area website. Found someone trying to sell who does don't want it empty.

We also use house sitters who do this instead of shorter term lets.

Not ideal. But you don't HAVE to leave your rental.

Keep paying the rent and stay put.

Has the LL issued a section 21 notice?

Basically you stay and ultimately the LL has to go to court. It's quite complicated and lengthy and by the time it gets a court date you will be gone.

In order to serve the section 21 correctly the LL also has to have gone through a very specific process and had a lot of paperwork issued. Is this the case? Or are you going by your original notice?

My friend has a holiday let, but had a family stay for a couple of months in that because they were in your exact same situation. That was over a winter though, so although it's something you could perhaps look into, it's not the best time of year to try to negotiate a longer than holiday length stay and places are more likely to be booked up.

Her property is on Home Away (I think) if that helps?

england? read your how to rent. section 21 received? all legal?

Sorry for lack of clarity - it is legal - we were issued a section 21, but then the landlord verbally agreed on a lease extension. It took a while to sort the paperwork, and while we signed it - the landlord hadn’t. We were chasing for his signature when he dropped the bombshell that due to a misunderstanding on his part, he couldn’t actually extend the lease. So the original section 21 is still valid. Leaves us in a tricky situation though!

not really - just stay put and keep paying, and tell the landlord you will be gone as soon as you complete. he cant end the lease, only you or a bailiff can. not worth commencing eviction which takes mont hs.

I'm a landlord. this is how it is.
