Advice about moving!

Hey ladies I really need some advice - hubby has a new job but we need to relocate from just outside Edinburgh to Manchester (big move!).

We have 2 kids (10 and 7) what areas should we be looking at and what areas should we be avoiding? Looking at no longer than 30-40 mins away from city center - don't want to be in the center of town 🙈

Any help at all would be so aooricuated 💕 thank you all in advance.

What's your budget, what kind of house are you looking for, including number of bedrooms, and whereabouts in Manchester is his new job based?

MikeUniformMike · 16/05/2018 15:25

What sort of schools would your children be attending?

HolistiqueHealing · 16/05/2018 16:06

Hey! So the job is in the city centre would be needing 3 bedroom, downstairs loo as hubby uses a wheelchair kids would be at primary eldest will be starting secondary next year.

I'm so lost with where to start!

Preferably renting for the first little while until we get a feel for the place xx

Parts of Manchester and Salford are rough.Avoid those.
Some of the suburbs are very nice. Look for any property to rent or buy that is wheelchair friendly, within the commuting area and can offer decent schools.
I'm not sure what the commute from the Stockport or Altrincham areas are like but I would consider those.

wowfudge · 16/05/2018 17:37

Budget? Both for renting and buying. There's no point suggesting areas you can't afford OP.

HolistiqueHealing · 16/05/2018 18:06

Thanks I'll look into those :) no budget - can't put a price on getting the right location I'll be renting first then buying if we like the area. I really just want suggestions of good areas/ areas to avoid so I don't feel like money has anything to do with it to be honest.

I'm from the suburbs so would be looking at something lie that, possibly somewhere with outdoor space? Country side? Is the Peak District area good for families?

Thanks xx

Looked up Stockport suburbs. Commute on public transport is OK but 55 mins in car.

Generally speaking, Trafford is the best place to be for education (although that's not to say there aren't good schools elsewhere). I think certainly in places like Altrincham, every primary school in the area except for 1 or 2 are outstanding, and Altrincham Grammar School for Girls (state) was recently voted the best school in the country by The Times. It's a very family friendly area but probably one of the most expensive areas. Have a look too at Sale, Timperley and Urmston.

Good value in Stockport - Cheadle, Heaton’s, Bramhall etc.
Trafford, Sale And Altrincham very overpriced if buying (in my opinion). Didsbury and Chorlton very easy to rent in, abd good as a base as you get to know the area.

MikeUniformMike · 16/05/2018 19:12

I was thinking Bramhall/Hazel Grove areas. Family friendly, not too expensive.

We live just in Derbyshire. 30 mins by train into Manchester city centre. It's a beautiful area - the Peak District is on the doorstep and there are some great local amenities. We used to live closer to Stockport and I don't regret moving one bit.

HolistiqueHealing · 17/05/2018 08:08

Sounds lovely I'll definitely look into there 😊 x
