Modern v traditional kitchen

I had a Harvey jones linear kitchen. Loved it.

Just moved into an old Edwardian house with amazing original features. Want to replace the kitchen but I'm struggling to imagine a modern kitchen.
All the traditional kitchen options seem to have some sort of panel, which I've had before and isn't easy clean.
Is there a kitchen style that I'm missing?
Not too modern, wouldn't look out of place in an old house?

Personally I do not think Edwardian is very old. I have seen many lovely Edwardian houses extended with bifold doors and have super modern kitchens to make use of the new found light and space. You do not have to match the kitchen to the house. Sometimes it is exciting not to do that.

I do have a modern Shaker style kitchen myself and I completely understand what you say about the doors! I would browse through the latest editions of KBB Magazine and see what style you like. There are sually lots of ideas.I do think you can allow yourself to veer away from the style of the house into what actually works for you as a kitchen. Have a look at the Neptune Limehouse kitchen. This style might work for you.

I think a mix of modern with period features looks great. I much prefer modern kitchens and bathrooms in period houses and dislike ones that try to copy old features - I find them fake looking and fussy. Modern ones tend to be more practical too.

Possibly slab inframe? Good mixture of classic & modern

You're right, it's not that old, but every other room in the house has been restored to the smallest detail, I feel guilty changing anything to modern!
In slab- found 1909, I like that and there's a showroom close by. I was impressed by Neptune kitchens, but just moved away from that showroom.
It already has a couple of velux windows and new doors so doesn't have to be really traditional, just not ultra modern.

We found keeping the kitchen in tune with the era of the house but making the bathrooms swishy and modern suited us.

I live in an Edwardian house and while I like period style (and do largely renovate / decorate with this in mind) it’s also good to remember that the Edwardians loved innovation...

I was berated by some purists for being in favour of timber-effect UPVC sliding sashes instead of timber, but my view is that the Edwardians would have used timber-effect UPVC had it existed (and I can’t afford real timber anyway, so it’s academic).

My house is a fairly modest semi-detached, and is full of features made of cheap materials attempting to look expensive with paint effects (e.g. mass produced cast iron fireplaces painted to look like mahogany).

NB this was to replace 70s UPVC, not the original windows.

So, getting to the point. Kitchens should be practical, and an Edwardian kitchen would have been practical over and above any aesthetic consideration. So it’s entirely Edwardian in spirit to have as modern a kitchen as you like!
