Is moving a combi boiler a massive hassle please?

And in general moving pipes/drains/knocking down walls etc. Am just thinking how we might extend our 1930s mid-terrace... Before we get going with talking to an architect I just wondered which parts of remodelling/extending a terrace (galley kitchen but no side return) are costly/full of hassle and worth avoiding if at all possible? (Yeah, I know, ALL of it... Wink) Thanks!

We have just had a extension and had a new boiler and also had it moved. It was fine actually. The plumbers are good at doing all the new pipes and they put them in the ceiling etc.

As part of existing work it shouldn't be too painful.

I had my boiler moved from an upstairs bedroom (why, WHY install it there?!?!) to the kitchen. Cost about £1k 10 years ago which was a lot of money.

Oh fantastic, that’s good to know! There are so many ways we could design an extension but I didn’t know if we might come up against practical constraints. If anyone has any tips on layout and what to consider I’d be very grateful thanks!

As per other posters should be fine save for drains ie if you are looking to move main drains - that is a game!

I had a boiler moved a few years ago. Also from an upstairs bedroom (yes, I wondered why put it there too) to a downstairs utility room. Had new boiler, radiators and pipe work at the same time and was around £3500. My plumber didn’t consider it a majorly difficult job.

We had our boiler moved in isolation from kitchen to airing cupboard. Was perfectly fine and not too disruptive.

This is all good to hear, thanks! As for the drains, I think we'll have to - there is a drain cover thing 3m into the garden but we'd want to extend further so we wouldn't have a choice unfortunately...

For those people querying why a boiler was put in a bedroom, it was probably where the old one was or where the old hot water cylinder was so just prevented taking space from elsewhere and possibly re-used existing pipework.
