How to find structural drawings of existing extension of a house

just that really. It would really help to find out which walls are load bearing etc and what can be done easily to change layout of a house.
I can find previous planning application of house from council planning website. I guess when people do extension they might be submitting structural drawings to building control. Any idea if I could search it somewhere online? should i contact building control of council?

Are the extension drawings not on the planning application on the council website? We're buying a bungalow that's been extended and the extension plans were there when I had a look, also the original plans from when the house was built in the 60s.

If it's not on the planning portal you can try sparking to building control but they are only obliged to keep things for 15 years and as you weren't the client I don't think they will have any obligation to provide you with anything. Is there anything in the pack of info from the solicitors when you bought the property.

The planning portal has planning document, but not structural drawings. We are in the process of buying it and good suggestion that i can ask solicitors if they could get it from vendors.

If the vendors did the work they should have any structural drawings which would gave been done so ask for them.

Building control may have a copy of there was a submission BUT you don't always have to submit plans, there are other ways to get building regs (ie inspection)
Councils often don't have Building Regulations drawings online but you can request to see them at the council.

Vendors would be your best bet

thanks for replies. i was hoping there could be some sort of database with council but anyway. Will ask vendor and ring building control.

I had a similar issue - Building Control said that although they could let me see the drawings, I couldn't have a copy (even though I owned the house) as they were copyright of the architect.

If you can find the name of the architect on the plans, it may be worth giving them a call.

I agree with contacting the previous architect (name would usually be on the planning permission docs). They will want you to consider them for your proposed works and so will probably be happy to share any retained knowledge!
