Did a neighbour put you off buying a house?

We saw the most beautiful house yesterday in an idyllic setting...all seemed well, expect that the next door neighbour has filled the front of his house (and the other side of the lane opposite his house) with old tractors, tyres and jeeps. It is such an eyesore when you pass!!

Then when we were out in the dream house garden, we could see that his garden is full of chicken coops and dog kennels... the EA said “don’t worry, he’s a bit strange”.

To make matters worse, the neighbour was watching our entire viewing and kept popping his head up over the fence to see what we were doing...then he started cutting logs with a chain saw, even though it was raining...

It’s a rural place, off a long dirt track. We need to walk away from the property, don’t we??! It is otherwise prefect.

Any advice please? Anyone had a similar situation? He’s mid-60’s apparently, so unlikely to leave anytime soon

When we were viewing the rear garden, the neighbour told us over the fence (!!) that as soon as the air source heat-pump was commissioned, she’d be reporting us to the council for noise pollution. Shock

She then went on to tell us that she can see EVERY bit of the back garden and she’d be keeping a diary of noise levels ShockShock

She THEN went on to tell us that there was no broadband so we wouldn’t want to live there Biscuit

One neighbour got wind of the offer we made and decided to reopen a boundary dispute from a decade ago and demanded £30k to settle. We pulled out. Apparently the owner was near homidical when he found out what the neighbour had done (written directly to our solicitor) and the house took another 3 years to sell. We knew about the disputes, they had declared everything, but this was too much.

Walk away and don't look back.

Seriously - having lived next to a fucking nightmare psycho neighbour I'm now incredibly wary. If they look like they're going to be a nightmare, they inevitably will be.

My friend viewed a really nice house. Upstairs back bedroom, her DH looked out of the window and told her to come and look. Next doors garden had a gravestone in it.

Thanks all. Heeding your advice and will give the house a miss!! Life too short to be made miserable by neighbours
