Having our Kitchen redone, which do you prefer?

Hello

We are having our kitchen totally redone, I’ve been trying to make my mind up on what I want.

I quite like D as it’s open, although it all faces toward the walls.

C is probably my favourite as it faces outward, but it is only about 15ft of work surfaces and there is little option for wall units.

A is probably my least favourite, and I think B is probably the most sensible.

Thanks in advance and feel free to suggest any other layouts.

@unimaginativeusernname yes that's exactly what I mean, so no peninsula. It would even leave room for a little sofa or a desk next to the door where you come in. Also the problem with D is that once you've got your sink, your hob and your fridge in (assuming full height fridge) then there isn't actually that much work surface left. I don't think you'll go over to the separate bit of work surface for food prep. I think it'll end up functioning more as a 'dresser' (although you could put the microwave over there).

D without the units behind the table. I'd put a cupboard matching the table there.

D is best ... less fussy and more open

Furano · 06/05/2018 22:35

A but flipped and have your hob on the peninsular so you work outwards

C with the hob on the peninsular bit. Very sociable.

flissfloss65 · 06/05/2018 22:39

C but I would flip it round so your sink is by the window and the peninsular from there. Then when you walk in you don’t have to walk all the way around it.

I prefer the table in the smaller part of the kitchen too. Where Furano has it, then find the best configuration for units in the other space.

PrimalLass · 06/05/2018 22:56

I'd want the table by the patio doors.

EmmaC78 · 07/05/2018 12:39

I would do what Furano suggests but not have the peninsula and insteadhavw more units along the wall towards the patio doors.

D

It's hard to picture how big the room is but it looks like you're trying to create a big family space. It doesn't look like you have room for a peninsula and a dining table. Could you combine them or have the dining table elsewhere?

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/05/2018 12:49

I'd also go for the door position of C, but put the units as in D and turn it in to a full U shape with the extra leg being where the door is in D. If the room isn't that big I'd avoid the peninsula so you don't feel cramped when everyone is sitting round the table.

PrimalLass · 07/05/2018 14:17

Would it be a pain to have to walk in and round into the kitchen but every time? It would annoy me.

PrimalLass · 07/05/2018 14:17

Bit

D

I don't think it is big enough to split with any kind of peninsula. Work out how much space you'll have if doors, drawers and dishwasher are open. Do you cook with 2 people or intend to with DC?

Whattodowithaminute · 08/05/2018 06:07

Have you worked out what unit space you will need? What’s the length of the right hand wall?

4.5m looks a little tight to me for a peninsular and a table unless you are using bench type seating. Could you do this?
