Help me decide: open-plan or seperate kitchen (with floor plan and layout pics)

Working on floor plan for extension, I cant decide whether to go for large open plan kitchen-diner or seperate kitchen and living-dining room. There would be a seperate reception room and study, so even in open plan it wont be just one room on ground floor.
Any suggestion to change the floor plan/kitchen layout would be great too.
I had posted earlier but thought of posting again with right question as i couldnt edit my previous question.

Choc - why doesn't that work (guests in big kitchen diner and kids in separate lounge)?

Open plan but the dining table seems in an awkward place.

The kitchen/family room has the corner sofa, kalkax full of kids stuff, the Xbox & is designed for the kids to live & play in. The kids are 11 & 9 & still want to sit in the family room
at night with their stuff whilst the adults are having a dinner party but end up being put to their room or in the adult lounge. We are friends so don't care where we eat but I know their mum hates entertaining in a room full of kids stuff. Her adult lounge ends up having the kids & their stuff in it.

I really don’t care for open plan living spaces. I like the separation. We have a large kitchen with an island, a round table to fit four people, and a “nook” with a couple of loveseats and a big bookcase. That’s our “informal” living space. But we have a separate living room and a separate dining room. I like the added formality of the dining room (who wants to see the sink when they’re eating) and in the living room we are closed off from everything.

Ikea, I'm sure other companies too, do a dish drying cupboard. Basically a wall mounted cupboard without a base that goes above the sink/ drainer area. If you have the lifty up fold in the middle doors instant draining clutter hide by pulling the door down.

Another one to consider is two full sinks. Dirties in one so they're not on the side.

A space for everything means stuff is less likely to be left out.

We have a small kitchen semi open to small dining room. It looks bigger for keeping most appliances in cupboards.

I am now liking Open plan with good storage so there is space for everything to be stored neatly.
Two separate sinks with one of those having a draining rack cabinet as well, really liked the idea.

Love an open plan kitchen-diner, hate an open plan kitchen-diner-lounge. It gets so loud and chaotic at times. I like to have the radio on while I cook/potter in the kitchen and you can't do that if someone else also wants the telly on. I'd never buy a house with this arrangement, but on mumsnet I'm in the distinct minority!
