Just a note to those who, like me, wondered if it's possible to paper over woodchip wallpaper. Everybody, but EVERYBODY says 'No, you can't!' They say you have to bite the bullet and strip it and replaster where necessary.
With an entire house of painted woodchip, I decided to find out for myself. I bought a modern textured paper - only £8.50 a roll, and did a test area. Left it a few days and guess what? The house didn't fall down. Western society as we know it didn't end. So I did the whole room... and another room.... etc. Two years on, the wallpaper is still up, and nobody from the Plastering Police or Decorators' Bureau of Investigation has called. It might feel like you're not doing the job as it should be done but why? It looks great and saved me a lot of money. I wouldn't normally paper over paper, but with woodchip, I'm happy to make an exception.
