Kitchen appliances - where to buy?

Hey there, moving in to our new (old) house soon and we've to buy appliances. Any recommendations of best places to go? Based in London. I'm thinking it'll make sense to try and get a deal if we get them all together in one place? We need fridge, freezer, washing machine, dryer.

Ive just got all new appliances built in. Ive used AO.com for the majority of them. They offer a good price. No problems with them in the past.

It's so variable depending on the offers that everyone has. Two years ago the fridge I wanted was in the John Lewis spring event and was £150 cheaper than any where else. Spending an hour or two searching the models you want on line can save you a lot of money.

It's worth looking at offers and comparing prices once you have a good idea of which models you would like. Buying all together in one place can save on delivery charges and means everything comes together. Also factor in additional benefits or offers. For example - if you have a Boots Advantage card buying from Boots (usually fulfilled by ao.com) will give you plenty of points - effectively a 4% discount. If you have a John Lewis Partnership card buying from John Lewis on the card can earn you extra points too. You really need to decide what you want, then shop around and do the sums.

I didn’t know Boots sold appliances. I need a range cooker and an American fridge freezer.

I didn't know Boots sold them either! Thanks so much, will check out John Lewis and AO as well. Clueless as to what brands to buy but sure I can check out ratings and reviews. When did life get so wild!

If you have no idea I would strongly suggest going and looking at fridges and freezers layout is very much personal choice. Do you know your dimensions.
I was moving to a new house measured could fit a 70 cm fridge freezer in, researched the hell out of what I wanted. I went and looked at several different ones in shops.
Washers and dryers what programs are you going to use most do you want eco friendly, to be able to pop that sick you dropped on the floor in or is a really big drum important.
Appliances are a big investment so you need to spend time working out what you need and want.

I had a list of appliances narrowed down from a which subscription and other likes and dislikes then sent it through to loads of different companies and put it in an excel spreadsheet for comparison purposes. A lot of variation in the costings. The choice is a bit overwhelming so having a starting point was half the battle for us

Thanks so much, we're going to the house on Saturday so I'll take the measurements then and crack on with the research - I have access to a which account so I'll start there. Thanks!

We used appliance city

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 02/05/2018 10:58

I usually get mine in the January sales. Good idea to see what u want and then see if you can get cheaper by shopping around. Some companies will give you a discount if you buy 3 or more from them.
Even if they don't my friend was really cheeky and asked for a discount .
Look at guarantees as these vary from 1 to 10 years but make sure it covers labour as that is the most expensive part.
Make sure they have the features you need but do avoid buying complicated things with features you will never need , Such machines are often more difficult to repair. Fridges use the most energy as they are on 24/7 so try to get an energy efficient one eg AA or AAA

You need to decide on what you want, then compare prices.

I start with John Lewis, then compare with Currys, maybe Argos and any other local stores you may have.

I used AO. Delivery was good..

RetrosheepHandmade · 02/05/2018 11:15

I recently purchased two items from argos one was a washing machine and the other was a fridge , I thought great they were both paid for at the same time both showing as in stock and even gave me a delivery date .

leading up to the delivery 2 days before i had confirmation via two text messages for each item i was having delivered . The fridge came a day before the delivery date which we wasnt informed of and it was lucky we was home , it was a good job that my husband was here too becuase there was only one delivery man on his own who had to carry a fridge up a flight of steps on his own with no form of equiptment to help him so my husband had to help him carry it .

Then when the day for the washer to arrive it never did the day later i contacted argos to find out where it was and they stated that its not in stock and that i would have to choose another machine, they even denied that they stated it was in stock ha ha they must have missed the part where i paid for the item had a delivery date and text messages to state when it was being delivered.

I was then left without a washing machine until i could find a replacement as i had already gotten rid of my old one to make sure everything was ready for the day of delivery. Bad mistake ordering from argos they had failed to cancel my order and had to call up and ask them for my money back of which we had to wait a few days without the funds to buy a new washer as argos had our money and without a washing machine.

For this reason i will never buy any white goods or any large item deliveries from argos again their service is terrible and the delivery driver on his own being expected to carry a fridge up a flight of steps on his own is beyond. Lol rant over avoid argos if you atually want delivery of your item ha ha

I have found ao.com consistently have the best prices and a decent range with good delivery options and service.

You'll have to take a couple of irritating phonecalls about "service plans" but I've used them lots over the last 3 years (4 different occasions and 9 different appliances - work and home - that's why so many!) and have been consistently impressed.
