Would you buy an induction hob again?

Considering one in my kitchen re-design, so would be great to gauge any MN owners views!

Love ours, we replaced dual fuel range with induction range , Stoves and would never go back.

We've got a relatively basic AEG.
Moved to induction from ceramic (no mains gas).
I cook steak and stir fries no problem - after the ceramic hob they seem to cook much faster.
I don't know about the turning the power down thing though - have not used more than 2 rings at a time yet. It does beep a lot - and if you spill water on it (ie lift a pan lid so it drips o the hob) it switches off. But other than that I love it.

Mine is a Gorenje Stark and is in which as a Best Buy. I have a 70 cm one which cost me £700 from John Lewis and it has 4 rings and they can combine into 2 flex zones.
It has plenty of room and doesn’t turn off as soon as you move a pan, it gives you about 15/20 seconds which is long enough to drain stuff or whatever. It seems to cook evenly and I can leave it and it is very controllable, easy to clean and as a timer.
My old gas hob was awful and I couldn’t simmer items, I had to keep moving them off and then back on. Annoyed me intensely.
Would buy it again in a heartbeat.

What make/model have you got villageshop #knowstoavoid

sunshinesupermum · 30/04/2018 17:39

ggirl the model I'm considering is a Stoves

villageshop · 30/04/2018 18:18

Sunshine, ours is a Stoves, it was a mid to top range model about two years ago and we had the correct extra power electric cooker point installed for the induction hob. It has knobs which I prefer rather than touch top controls.

It has a multi-function oven which I like, and a grill / top oven which works well, it's just the induction cooking top I don't like.

If I couldn't have gas I would definitely choose induction over electric ceramic though, for speed if nothing else as I've heard ceramic are very slow and inefficient.

I really don’t have a problem cooking on my 5 ring (two of which can be combined into a flexi zone) neff hob. I can have all the rings on full power at once if I want; I can sear things. It doesn’t scratch easily and is very easy to clean.

The only thing I can’t do is to stick a pepper or aubergine on a flame, but I can stick them under the grill and achieve the same effect (with less mess to clear up).

The beeping is a bit annoying, but that only happens while I’m cleaning it really. It’s nowhere near as annoying as the beeping from my dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier (thanks Bosch).

wowfudge · 30/04/2018 18:37

We have a Stoves electric induction range and it's great. The electrician put a new feed in which is higher spec than the installation manual said (not very technically put, but you get my drift) because he said you might need it will all the ovens and rings on at once.

I love mine, I was cleaning my Mum's gas hob and then it took ages to heat a pan of water for pasta, which reminded me just how much I love mine.

I do think that the quality of your pans also makes a difference. I got a few cheap induction suitable ones from TKMaxx that had spots of ferrous metal on the bottom, they worked but took ages, better ones with a solid base work much better.

beachcomber243 · 30/04/2018 19:19

I love mine which I've had for 6 years now with no problems except it was a cheaper one and there are a couple of slight scratches on it [only see them when the sun is shining on it]. I do not know why as I am very careful, clean and tidy. I suspect it was from grouting the tiles.

So I would get a more expensive one next time.

BakedBeans47 · 30/04/2018 19:29

I like the fact it doesn’t heat the kitchen up as much as gas. Our kitchen was always a boiling when we had gas. Much more bearable now! There’s no automatic fan either and no issues with power we can have all the rings on max no problem.

spiderplantsgalore · 30/04/2018 19:30

I am buying an induction hob again. I've had one for years and would never go back to gas. Now I'm moving and am about to replace the very old kitchen I can't wait to install induction again.
Apart from being much easier to clean you can reduce the heat to the lowest simmer or boost it to boil really quickly.

Decent pans, proper wiring are important.

fenneltea · 30/04/2018 19:36

If I had the option I'd stick with gas, but we're all electric, the induction is okay, but I wouldn't rave about it. Mine's an AEG.

KarinVogel · 30/04/2018 19:46

After many years of cleaning gas cookers I wanted something clean and neat when we had the kitchen renewed . Since I knew nothing about them I opted for a cheap oven and hob combo and I probably wouldnt have bought so cheap if I had more experience of them. But I do love the clean lines of the plain black glass. It has touch controls which took a bit of getting used to but we are getting the hang of it now.
There have been a few disasters but thats only to be expected and I know how to set the power now so that it doesnt switch itself off if overheating .
I keep the top clean by wiping down after every use ( only the top mind you - the over has a door I can close) and then going over with a window ecloth -no streaks and a lovely shine.
I think I would get another one - but might save up for a better model next time.

villageshop · 30/04/2018 19:53

I miss the way the gas hob used to warm up our old kitchen and make it cosy.

NotAgainYoda · 30/04/2018 19:57

Hell YES!

Runsandreads · 30/04/2018 20:29

Yes, I love mine!

I had gas before. I liked the fact that it was responsive but cleaning it was awful (especially since the previous owners had let it get in a right state). I also left the gas on/set fire to stuff on more than one occasion so it was an accident waiting to happen.

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 30/04/2018 21:45

I love mine. Had one in a rented house and then was converted. When having my kitchen done recently I had it rewired just so I could get an induction hob. I got one of the Which? Best Buy ones. AEG I think.

sunshinesupermum · 01/05/2018 08:04

Think I'm going to go for one of the Zanussi ones
