Help me pick a colour for stair walls

A bit of context....
I live in a very small house. Downstairs only consists of very small kitchen and same sized living room. We have two bedrooms and a box room.
There is me, DH and four DC's aged 5-13 living here.
I'm telling you this so you can appreciate how concentrated the grubby handprints can be as it is such a small space with so many of us.

I am very unimaginative and tend to always go with the same blue colours in every room, and we need to paint the stairs.
It's currently a dark grey/blue colour and looks too dark. I am thinking white, or off white but DH says no because of the kids.

So I need a colour that will brighten up the space, make it look bigger, and will be paint that is easy to clean. VERY easy to clean. I cannot stress that enough Grin

I saw somebody mention Dulux Timeless on another thread, which looks lovely when I looked at it. But I would be concerned about the cost of repainting over any grunge marks on the wall, and if it can be wiped clean.

So. Any suggestions?

TIA

I have never painted my house with children in mind. Tell your DH that children should wash their hands and not get grubby marks everywhere. They need to respect their home even if it is somewhat undersized.

Being a small space with many grubby hands makes marks on walls nigh on impossible to avoid (similar situation here!)

I would go for a scrubbable paint. Even in an off white if it was cleaned weekly it wouldn’t build up so much (I delegate this to the children because I’m mean Grin)

I would go for timeless but go to a Dulux trade centre si you can get diamond Matt which is scrubbable.

We’ve just painted ours with Johnstones vinyl paid colour matched to farrow and ball Hay. It looks lush and is completely scrubbable. It is quite yellow but I’m not a neutrals person Smile

Silk paint would reflect the light and is also fairly easy to wipe clean. You'll need a paint that isn't water based so it doesn't come off when washed.

Timeless is very light. I like natural hessian, also dulux, kind of a light sand colour. I have it in our hall, stairs and landing, which are small, and it's really brightened up the space

I'm looking for exactly the same thing OP!

I recently painted my conservatory in Crown -Flagon. It's kind of a sage green affair without being too mushy pea green. I'm not sure about the scrubability but the colour might be a good dirt hider.

I just painted over Dulux Timeless in my hallway as I got fed up of having to touch it up! I love timeless and have it all over my house but the stairs were constantly grubby and greyish where they have leaned on the wall to help climb the stairs (particularly as toddlers). Mine wash their hands frequently but still natural oils etc can leave marks. Silk paint is good as you can wipe it but the wall needs to be decent quality as it'll show all the imperfections and then the hallway is shiny!

Thanks everybody. Definitely going to have a look at some of the suggestions.
The paint on our stairs is silk and was from a Dulux Trade place but not sure which line. It's quite shiny but not TOO shiny.

We did the kitchen with a blue again Dulux kitchen paint which is amazing to clean, but any little nick in the paint, and it peels off like wallpaper

@BubblesBuddy I hear what you're saying, and in theory should work great, but the kids are in and out of the house constantly after school, because they play out front with their friends, and I just can't make them wash their hands every 15 minutes or so. Also they would have to go upstairs to wash them, and leave their grubby paw marks as they went up to do it Grin
