Bonkers removal quote - pickfords

We're moving about fifty miles - one reasonable sized house (three bedrooms) so one van... Pickfords think it will take three days and cost over £2k... anyone else had similar experience?

North West here and used Easy Move Removals, £350 for a 4 bed house.

Pickfords quotes are always insane. It'd be cheaper to get Kim Kardashian to load all of your stuff in several mink-lined shopping trolleys and push it to the new house.

We paid about £800 last summer, moving the contents of a three bed (with a lot of small, heavy boxes - thousands of CDs and LPs) two hours' drive away. It took them a day, and I tipped them £90 (between the three of them).

The quotes we had varied a lot. One said it would be a two day job, which seemed bizarre. I can't see how yours would be three days! When my parents moved out of the 'family home' it was a three dayer, but that was a five-bed house, with full packing service.

Crazy money, does anyone do the move themselves? Appreciate it's not possible for everyone but we hired a self drive 3.5t van for two days for about £140, 3 bed house into a four bed with a lot of stuff including garden plants/furniture and bikes. We spent about £60 on large packing boxes and sofa covers. Family helped move the big items at each end but the rest was done by the pair of us with a 2 year old to keep an eye on, very hard work but being a bit fussy I couldn't imagine trusting strangers with our possessions especially beds and delicate furniture etc.

Have an image of the Kardashian’s turning up to move my house now... would probably be cheaper and quicker than pickfords Grin

When you do compare to other companies just check the insurance for house damage at both houses and whether they pay out for any damage if you packed the boxes yourselves.

We used Pickfords for our last move but we needed all our stuff in storage for a while so the price included that. It was a 3 day move, 2 days to move stuff out and 1 day to move stuff in as they started at 8.30am rather than after 2pm on a normal move day.
