Anyone had a carpet fitted recently?

If so can you tell me how much it cost?

I've had a quote from a flooring man recommended by our builder and it's ages since we've fitted carpet so I honestly don't know how much is reasonable. He's quoted £1750 for 2 carpets + underlay. The rooms are about 14 x 10 ft each. One of the rooms needs underlay removing that was glued to the floor.

I've just carpeted the whole house except for kitchen, bathroom and dining room.

£30 per sqm

£2000 for 80/20 Cormar carpet from Online Carpets
£260 for 11mm branded underlay from flooringhut.co.uk
£600 for fitting including supply of grippers and 9 door bars.

Are you happy with the carpets? If so it sounds a reasonable quote.

Wool is more fireproof too.

I had all three bedrooms, hall and stairs done with wool carpet for £1,400 last year. Tapis carpets, they did a good job.

Oh I had the most expensive underlay everywhere except stairs (the existing was fine there) and they did reuse my grippers.

This thread is frustrating! Without knowing what the carpet is - and there are two of them at different prices - who's to say it's a fair price? We paid about £600 from an online retailer for a very good quality wool mix carpet in the medium of the three weights available. A local supplier wanted to charge nearly £300 more. Actually he told me one price in the shop then it changed after he'd measured up and provided a quote. We didn't go with him as we then didn't trust him.

Carpetright are a rip off (unless may be you go to the sales) They wanted £330 for a bedroom carpet without underlay incl fitting.
2 Years ago I only paid £840 for another similar size bedroom , large living room and medium size hall/stairs
