Where to buy Victorian tiles for my footpath

Hi there,

I am looking to buy Victorian sheet tiles for my front garden footpath - the black and white style.

The builder recommended London Mosaics (seem costly).

I've also seen Topps Tiles and Walls and Floors sell these.

Does anyone have any feedback on the best place to buy in order to get good quality at a reasonable price?

I'm happy to pay the high price of London Mosaics if it's justifyable better quality although I'd love to know which shops other people recommend.

I'm very interested in this too. I'm planning to buy mine from:

www.originalstyle.com/

who work out much cheaper than London Mosaics.

This is one area where IMO you should spend as much as you can afford. It is the public face of the house, a showcase and you will see it every day. Second hand good quality tiles, as long as undamaged, might be found at a salvage yard.

Hi, if you have a Victorian house then you should be looking for original tiles from a salvage yard, if you are in south London then look for the architectural salvage yard by catford or try the fireplace shop by lee green.

I got mine reclaimed off eBay. Modern ones either v expensive or cheap looking..

Thank you all, this is really really helpful.

I'm looking for a sheet rather than the tiny individual mosaics as the fitting costs are prohibitive.

We got these from Topps. Waiting to have them laid this week but they look great:

Try Mosaics by post Smile

roses2 · 17/04/2018 07:59

Thank you harriet & TheTeaFairy!

I've noticed that the London Mosaics tiles are ceramic and the Topps TIles and Mosaics By Post tiles are porcelain.

Porcelain tiles seem to be a lot more weather proof and frost proof from what I read.

Now Topss Tiles vs Mosaics by Post. There doesn't seem to be a huge price difference between the two. I'll order some samples to see if I feel any difference.

Thanks all!

Our builder has a trade account with Topps so we got I think 10% off - worth checking with the person laying them (unless DIY)

Are you near European Heritage in Fulham? They do black/white sheet exterior. They sell some stock online so might be worth contacting them to see if they'll send sample.

mayhew what do you keep in the green box? Your path is gorgeous.

mayhew · 18/04/2018 09:06

The green (ugly) box is a high security bike shed, Asgard.

SoleBizzz · 18/04/2018 19:17

Ooh that's good mayhew. Very sensible of you.

Any update OP? I'm interested to know who you've gone with.

My sister has the tops tiles ne in her bathrooms and kitchen, and they look fantastic. They don’t look original though, but they still look great.
