Finally moving house! Rough removal estimate please!

So we've finally got a mortgage offer! It has only taken weeks and weeks to push them along but finally it has arrived!

Now to the costly part - can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much I should be looking to pay to move 45 minutes down the road in Surrey?

We have:

A double wardrobe with glass sliding doors (will be broken down into sections)
Oak bookcase
Oak TV unit
King size bed
Chest of drawers
2x bedroom cabinets
Small dining table and 2 chairs
Coffee table

Any rough ideas will be helpful so we can look at our budget and know roughly what to expect. We've got someone coming to give us a quote next week so want to know what a sensible figure would look like.

Some of these will give you an online indication, many will only quote over the phone.
The less info they ask, the less use they are.

And, obvs, you're going to go on more than price. And get the actual quote confirmed in writing.

You've only listed your furniture. You have no other belongings? Clothes, books, bedding, kitchen stuff?

outabout · 14/04/2018 18:12

If that is really all you are moving, hire a van for a weekend or even just 1 day and get a couple of friends to help lift.
If more of the big units dismantle then it makes things considerably easier.

We've just moved from a pretty full 2 bed terrace a couple of miles up the road and paid £850 for removals and full packing service which was ace. They brought in extra packers and managed to do it all in one day as it was during the bad snow.
Our stuff filled up two Luton vans. I think it was £500 removals and £250 packing. We're in the midlands.

I second the suggestion of moving yourself with a hire van for a day or weekend and a couple of strong mates.

wowfudge · 15/04/2018 08:03

Get some removal quotes and also quotes for packing. Ime people who move themselves underestimate how long it takes and what hard work it is. Removal firms do it day in and day out and are far more efficient. If you hire a van and can't get everything in in one go you'll have to go back and forth and it'll take you much longer than you probably think. If you are selling your current place rather than renting, bear in mind the contract will say you have to be out by a certain time. It is not on to keep the people moving in to your place waiting and you could end up being charged their waiting time fees.

wowfudge · 15/04/2018 08:04

Also do you really have no sofas or armchairs, no appliances, no clothes?!

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/04/2018 10:16

I paid £650 for a one bedroom flat inc a lot of books, white goods + contents of garden shed. This included dismantling and reassembly of two wardrobes and the bed. We are on the outskirts of London.

We're in Surrey and moved last month. We used Aspen removals from a 3 bed to 4 bed and it cost £1500. They were the most reasonable and did a great job.

SellFridges · 15/04/2018 10:19

Do not move yourselves unless you are moving from rental and have a few days to do so.

We paid £800 for full packing and the move (less than a mile). We went from a two bed to a five bed.

LittleBearPad · 15/04/2018 10:21

Don’t move yourself. It’s a total pita. Best way to do it is to have packers.

Esbm2015 · 15/04/2018 13:20

Thanks yes we've moved ourselves a couple of times and agree it really is a PITA.

Also we are on the fourth floor in our current flat with no lift so would prefer to get professionals in as we've the heavy oak furniture and a fairly large corner sofa to move along with our other belongings and basically would like it all done in one swift move.

Thanks for the quotes - really helpful to give us an idea of what prices to expect.

They'll charge extra as you're 4th floor with no lift, but they'll be used to that kind of thing - just tell them.
