Hi all,

DH's job is taking us to Leicester at some point over the next year. The plan was originally to rent for 6months so we could get to know the area (and rent out our house), but now we are expecting! So instead looking to buy straight into the area, and avoiding moving twice whilst pregnant/with newborn.

What areas would you advise living in? We have budget of £350k, give or take, no other children yet so 2-bed/3-bed is fine.

Obviously will visit the town and try to get to know it as much as poss, but always grateful for MNer thoughts!

Thanks in advance! X

Where abouts in Leicester is your husband going to be working? Leicester is a big place!
I also like the Quorn area.
I’ve lived in Syston all of my life and last year have just moved out. It’s getting too busy with all the house developments. And that plus the closing of the police station has completely changed how it was.
I’ve only moved up the road, but I’m enjoying the peace and quiet of being a bit further out.
Rearsby is also a lovely area, and the villages around there.
It’s good being out this way as access to A46 is great and you can get anywhere from there.
Completely depends on where your husbands job is.

Where will he be working, some routes into the city centre are a right bugger especially rush hour?

I grew up in a tiny village called Keyham about 7 or 8 Ikea East of the city centre, beautiful houses, lovely location but no public transport so you do need a car. Saying that lots of lovely villages and shopping within 3-4 miles easy drive. Barkby, billesdon and also lovely out that way.

I'm now in South East leicester about 2 miles from the city centre, loads of public transport, shops within walking distance and lots of schools to choose from.
