Please tell me about your boiling water/near enough to boiling water taps

We're redoing our kitchen, and keen to put in a tap that does near-enough boiling water, as well as hot and cold.

Can't quite stretch to a Quooker, and a bit baffled by the choice out there.

If you have one, what kind do you have, and would you recommend it? Do you wish you'd gone for something else instead?

I have the insinkerator 3in1 and it’s great.

Soundsystem, mine is a Franke.

We've got a quooker and it is properly boiling water and tea tastes great 😊 absolutely love it, one of the best things we put into our kitchen 👍🏻

We have the howdens one and I love it! Definitely boiling water

We also have a Quooker and love it. Ours is nearly 8 years old so not one of the newer models but works perfectly. The water is ideal for tea (and I am fussy) and I love it as others mentioned for instant boiling water for pasta, warming dishes etc. However, we have a hot water tap at work (can't remember the make but it looks quite fancy) and I don't think the water is hot enough from that and it also makes the tea taste funny - so there are differences between makes.

Thanks, all, this has been really helpful! Got it down to the Franke Minerva and the Grohe Red Duo. Have sent to DH to have a look as I've really spent too much time looking at taps now!

Can I just ask the posters that have Quooker - do you have the 3 in 1 (hot, cold, boiling)? We are redoing our kitchen and thinking about going for this model but I can't make my mind up whether to have a separate hot and cold mixer tap and then just a Quooker boiling tap. Apparently Quooker also now do a tap that also includes filtered water, does anyone have that tap? thank you

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2018 18:24

I would never have one if I had a child under about 13 living in the house.

soundsystem · 11/04/2018 21:17

Marvel Could I ask what particular risk you're concerned about? The ones I'm looking at have safety switches that are quite fiddly, so I wasn't really worried about them around small children...

We have an Abode 3 in 1 and love it. We had a problem finding one that worked with a lower pressure system but this works fine. Like a PP said, we need to let it run for a couple of seconds to get a really hot cuppa but I drink lots of herbal teas so it's perfect for me. I love how easy it is to cook pasta when the water is already boiling.

Our children know how to use it (8 and 11). When it was fitted, it took DS1 seconds to work out how to turn it on, it took DH longer to work it out! They know it's boiling and not to touch it. If you have small children they're unlikely to be able to reach it anyway. It's also safer than a kettle as they can't pull a whole kettle of boiling water on them, they're not likely to get more than a splash before letting go of the tap.

Thank you Fourmagpies I think we will go for the 3 in 1 tap. There seems to be so many decisions to make when you are redoing a kitchen. I am finding it all quite stressful.

I agree, I actually think the tap is safer than the kettle. I first saw these taps a few years ago when my sister was renting a house and there was one there. She had 3 young children and there was never any problems. When they were very young they couldn't reach the tap and when they were older they were taught how to use it.

We have the franke Minerva 3-1 and it is definitely boiling water ..best thing ever 5 men in the house and they love their tea ! Great for pasta, veg, and I also put the gravy granules straight in the jug to the tap ! I couldn't have justified quooker price ,I think ours was £600 but worth it

crazymumofthree · 15/04/2018 17:48

We have a quooker, brought by my OH. I thought it was completely useless and a waste of money (I don't drink hot drinks!) but honestly I couldn't have been more wrong!!

So useful - quicker to boil pans, hot water bottles, make gravy, hot drinks, to soak pans etc!

Tangoandcreditcards · 15/04/2018 21:08

Franke 3 in 1.

Best thing ever. Definitely boiling (checked it with a meat thermometer). Tea comes out a bit "frothy" because the water is aerated, but doesn't bother me. Makes a good tasting cuppa.

I love a hot water bottle, being able to make one instantly took it from an occasional winter treat to a daily indulgence Grin . And great for quick veggies.
