Lead paint (test kits?)

Hello, has anyone bought and used a lead paint test kit?

We have a few bits of old painted furniture and having a sudden panic that I’m ruining my DD’s brain.

Isn’t this locking the stable door after the horse has bolted? If it is old then it is probably safe to say it has at some point been painted with lead based paint, but why would furniture affect your child? Do they chew the furniture?

It's harmless unless a child is chewing it. Or if you are sanding it down to repaint.

What if it’s a bit chippy though?

Like actually flaking off? Give it a light sanding to get rid of flaky bits. (Outside) but again chips in the paint aren’t actually a problem unless she is eating it.

I wouldn't use sandpaper because that will make fine dust that could be inhaled.
If it is already flaking off then you could use a wire brush to remove the loose bits. But do it outside over newspaper and wrap it up to dispose.
Give it a couple of coats of good strong waterproof paint to seal the rest in.
