Little bit of work on kitchen - how much?

Really new to this.

How much should we expect to pay to have a fridge freezer cupboard fitted, the doors and handles for that, the doors and handles for an integrated w/machine and dishwater and the kickboards replacing? We have all the stuff, it's just for the actual fixing in of it.
Have absolutely no idea how much stuff costs! In the south of england if that makes a difference. Thank you.

It depends on who you can find to do it and where you live. Tradesmen in London are much more expensive than elsewhere. I would have thought that your job is between 1 and 3 days worth of work with no / minimal extras for material.

Round here odd job people/ labourers charge about £80 per day but a skilled carpenter can be £140 per day. I am in Yorkshire so will be cheaper than down south.

HeadingForSunshine · 05/04/2018 14:06

You need a carpenter/joiner I imagine. £200 per day.

SmileAndNod · 05/04/2018 18:11

Crikey. We've been quoted £600 for the job. Was just wondering if that was the going rate? Seems that's quite expensive then 🤔

I think that's about right if it's three days' work. Ask how long it will take.

AutoFilled · 05/04/2018 18:38

It’s about right I would think. If it’s £200 a day for a joiner for 3 days work. Tbh it’s who you can even get for a job I found. Very frequently I can only find one person who is even interested.

springmachine · 05/04/2018 19:21

I work for a London joinery form who also do kitchens and would charge about the same but I know we are more expensive than your local handyman who can easily do a small job like that far cheaper.

The carcass alone even from somewhere cheap on trade would cost around £100 plus vat and who knows if it's a slightly tricky job with end panels, extra fillets, cornice and plinth needed

springmachine · 05/04/2018 19:23

Just spotted it's for fitting only.

Well I would charge 2 men out to install a small kitchen in one day. (Into an empty room)

One man should be able to do that in a day if there's no issues.
I'd be thinking about hiring a different carpenter if my guy took longer than 2 days

springmachine · 05/04/2018 19:23

Our day rate is £160 (London)

springmachine · 05/04/2018 19:25

My husband who is not a carpenter but in the business installed 12 cupboard doors and handles in one day long day.
That includes cutting them all to size as they were all bespoke. So if he can do that in a day it's definitely not 3 days work

SmileAndNod · 05/04/2018 20:18

Yes just one days work and we have all the carcases, appliances etc.

Apart from them can only find kitchen fitters that want to do the whole kitchen. Only moved in laSt week and just want to make the kitchen a bit neater. They gave good reviews on the local FB and also have seen photos of their work.

Just don't know what to do. We have so much to do with the house I don't know where to start!!!

You have answered your own question. No one is interested in your job so far. Unless you can find someone else, it’s the guy who quoted for £600 or DIY.

We have found basically we can never find 3 quotes. Sometimes we can’t find anyone if it’s a small job and end up doing it ourselves.

Geneticsbunny · 06/04/2018 08:15

Ask the guy who has quoted you how long it will take and then ask him to break the quote down for you.

springmachine · 06/04/2018 09:12

@SmileAndNod
If there is lots to do on the house try and think of all jobs that one carpenter can do at once to make the job more appealing and get them done at the same time rather than breaking each job down to room by room.

Makes it a lot cheaper
