40k kitchen budget

glittergoat · 01/04/2018 22:27

To include new cooker and dishwasher etc.

Last time (about 8 years ago) we spent 10k on a smallish ikea kitchen with bespoke butchers block worksurface. Splashed out on cooker etc as this was about 4K of budget. Blocked up a door and put a window in.

Any ideas on next step up? All the designer stuff seems a step too far - what's the middle ground ?

I think £40k would buy you a fairly high end kitchen depending on the size. We saw a solid wood stunner for £39,900 including installation, appliances and worktops at the Homebuilding & Renovation show. See what's near you and go from there? Search for local professionals on Houzz.

Your best bet is to decide the style you're after and go from there, if shaker then a local carpenter might be a good idea, if modern I'd look at German kitchen brands.

Enjoy! Still shop around despite having a big budget. We were set on granite despite having a smaller budget. First quote was £5900 and I got it for £2655

Have you looked at www.devolkitchens.co.uk/

Or www.plainenglishdesign.co.uk/kitchens/

They start at £45k.
I love their designs.

They start at £45k

Think you might need to check the OPs title Wink

Thanks @widowtwonky, but I can read. They have sales regularly, and also I think it’s worth looking at kitchens that are 10k less and 10k more to understand what you are getting for what you are paying.

She also asked for suggestions, in case you hadn’t read that bit...

Beautiful and £25k upwards

I spent about £55k on my last one including a bit of building work. We used Handmade Kitchens OF Christchurch and had top of the range worktops, appliances, Karndean flooring etc. The kitchen cabinets were beautiful. They were around £11k unpainted (large kitchen). Can highly recommend them.

We went to 3 independents and ended up working with the one that listened to what we wanted. We ended up with a solid wood maple kitchen from a UK manufacturer that could make bespoke sizes where needed, all neff appliances and granite. Really happy with the result. Once the design was agreed we looked at the ranges available. They had access to neff promotions on appliances saving us about £800 over and above cheapest we could find. Take your time would be my advice. It’s a lot of money and you need to get it right.

The work top in the middle with the sink and cooker so you don't face the wall.

@glittergoat Zebra Property Group recently renovated my kitchen in my home in London and did a wonderful job. I would highly recommend them

Where do you want to spend the money? Upgrade of your appliances could eat £15k of that budget pretty easily... any structural work/worktops will add up to. For that pretty healthy budget you should go to an independent and take it from there? Designspace, intoto, are a couple I’ve heard of... where about are you? Might help others with recommendations.

I agree that you should have a look at some German kitchens if you like a more modern look and want a nice quality mid range!

We're building at the moment and have gone for a Next 125 kitchen, which is Schuller's high end line. They have loads of clever features and are of a nice quality--some of the features they offered we had thought would only be available in much more expensive kitchens, so you can make your money stretch a bit further. Supposed to be Schuller's answer to the Poggenpohl. Ours is a fairly basic iteration, albeit with a few nice bells and whistles (true handleless design, lovely thin line quartz worktops, 6 burner flush mounted induction hob, double undermount composite sinks, floor to ceiling pull-out larder, etc), and the price came in at 25k. If I had thrown caution to the wind and gotten everything I've always wanted (miele appliances, full size fridge and full size freezer, plate warming drawer, etc), the price would have come in closer to 40-50k. Definitely worth a look I think!
