Preparing for a rewire?

Another thread about preparing for renovations got me thinking. How would you prepare for a rewire?

It's a full rewire and the electrician reckons it will take seven working days. We're moving out for the first week, but will be at home the last two days (albeit at work/childcare). Have made arrangements for this, plus kitty jail for the cat.

What else should we do? I'm assuming box up anything lying around to make it easier with the dust sheets. Kitchen should be mostly unscathed.

And how bad is the place likely to look afterwards?!

Speak to the electrician , some walls he might not need to get to and you could pile stuff up against that particular wall. Expect lots of dust. Is he making good afterwards or have you got a plasterer in ?

Knowing where they are cabling in floorboards and moving as much obstructing furniture as possible will mean they can get on with work quicker: We knew they weren't lifting ground floors so piled lots under a table in one room

However much dust you anticipate, there will be more. Lots more.

Thank you! My understanding is that he's making good the damage to the walls so no separate plasterer booked - we want to see what it looks like before deciding what to do regarding decorating, and depending on which room we start with, we may need to get some walls skimmed anyway.
