alternative doors for Ikea kitchen

Can anyone recommend alternative doors for Ikea units? I'm looking for shaker style ideally, with a good choice of colours.

Do you mean you want to replace the doors on your Ikea kitchen? Or do you want to get Ikea units but don't like the doors? If the latter, wouldn't it be easier to get the units elsewhere too? I think Howdens do a shaker range.

Crumbelina · 31/03/2018 18:27

I've just bought some from Foxtow Shaker Doors (have a Google) but they won't be arriving until the end of April. So far so good though. I've gone for oak and am having them colour matched Farrow and Ball (they can match any colour, I think). They're very experienced with the Metod units and very competitive I'd say.

Crumbelina · 31/03/2018 18:28

Forgot to say, their Instagram page is great for examples of their work.

GardenWorm · 31/03/2018 20:36

Crumbelina would you mind sharing how much those Foxstow doors cost?

Crumbelina · 31/03/2018 22:12

Sure - we're paying around £6.5k for all the doors but that's for approx. six tall units, ten base units and seven wall units (and quite a few of those are 80cm in width). It also includes lots of plinths, cornicing, end and island panels, delivery etc and overall it's a pretty big kitchen - maybe around 35 items. And we've gone for the most expensive option of oak and F&B. I'm sure they'll send you a price list if you get in touch. As a rough guide, it's something like £115 for a 60 x 80cm (WxH) door and around £200 for a tall unit door, i.e. 60 x 200cm.

Baffledbylife123 · 31/03/2018 22:15

The shaker door company - based in Oxford but deliver anywhere. AMAZING! Our 7k kitchen looked like a 30k one!

Neolara · 31/03/2018 22:16

Friends have just got doors for their ikea kitchen from Naked Doors.

Crumbelina · 31/03/2018 22:22

Ooh Baffled, that's reassuring! I'm pretty sure we're using the same company as you. I feel like we've taken a bit of a risk as we haven't seen the doors (only in photos) but another Mumsnetter recommended them and we've taken the plunge. Did you go for oak and have a colour match?

Angryosaurus · 31/03/2018 23:11

Baffledbylife that’s interesting. Do they do end panels too? Why did you do that rather than diy kitchens for example? Husband loves ikea kitchens so may be a perfect compromise for us!

Crumbelina · 01/04/2018 08:05

Angry, I'm pretty sure Baffled and I are talking about the same company and yes, they do end panels, island panels, plinths, pelmets, cornicing. Everything you need to complete the kitchen.

I was going to opt for DIY Kitchens Norton style but read a glowing review on here for Shaker Doors. Also I wanted to copy a DeVOL kitchen (much more cheaply) and the Norton wasn't quite right. It just seemed a bit too contemporary when I saw it in the showroom. That said, it does look fabulous.

Angryosaurus · 01/04/2018 09:11

Thank you. I’m also wanting a devol copy kitchen. Please share photos/feedback when it’s in!

Crumbelina · 01/04/2018 09:14

Sure! Will be updating on this thread Smile www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/2924564-Help-with-kitchen-cabinets-Looking-to-immitate-deVOL

Baffledbylife123 · 01/04/2018 10:01

Hello all! We went for the cheaper option material and had them spray it the exact F&B colour that we wanted. We fitted the kitchen ourselves and we had a few non standard end panels and doors that they made for us with no problem at all. They even send some of the paint for you to touch up with if you ever need it.

We chose then because they offered a really personal and helpful service right from the start, with one of the owners taking my emails and calls, and because we could get the exact colour that we wanted. They were also really reasonably priced.

Honestly, I’m not getting paid by them, but I cannot say enough how fantastic they were! We also had worktops made by Mr Marble (who don’t, confusingly, make marble but stone worktops at a massively competitive price). I’m usually a pretty modest person, but I was so proud of that kitchen! We were even approached by a couple of interiors magazines to have it featured.

We’ve just moved to a new build house and I miss our old kitchen so much that I’ve approached them again about making replacement doors for us!

Crumbelina · 01/04/2018 15:28

Sorry for the thread hijack, but thank you so much for the feedback, Baffled! Flowers I've found the customer service to be great so far and I'm even more excited about their arrival now! We've currently got well over 30 boxes of IKEA units and once our floor is polished we have the lovely task of putting them all together and fitting our own kitchen. Am sure it will be worth all the effort though given the saving. We're going to top it off with a white quartz worktop and very expensive handles/knobs/catches Easter Confused to make it look high end. Should still be a bargain though.

Your post is even more reassuring as there aren't a lot of reviews for the company on the internet. I've only read one on here before (which was also glowing) and ordered the doors on the strength of it. I'd never take that risk normally!

GardenWorm · 01/04/2018 15:31

Thanks Crumble & other's. Very helpful Smile

Angryosaurus · 01/04/2018 16:16

Can I just double check everyone is referring to Foxtow shaker doors please Grin? I'd already found them searching for alternative doors to pax wardrobes although now thinking may be better to get fitted wardrobes and ikea kitchen with shaker doors!

Angryosaurus · 01/04/2018 16:16

If not them can you link to the other companies pls

Crumbelina · 01/04/2018 16:31

I'm 99% sure they're the same company. When I started my search they were just called "Shaker Doors" and have recently rebranded their website to Foxtows. Easter Smile

Baffledbylife123 · 01/04/2018 18:41

That’s them!

Crumb If you’ve not already ordered your worktop then I really would recommend Mr Marble. We had a chunky pure white quartz worktop and it was a fraction of what it would have cost somewhere else. They also survey and fit within about a week, which must be down to magic of some sort!

Baffledbylife123 · 01/04/2018 18:42

PS - I’m VERY jealous of all of your beautiful new kitchens! thinks grumpily and ungratefully of own bog standard newbuild kitchen

Crumbelina · 02/04/2018 07:55

Thanks Baffled! Am a big fan of Diapol but will get a sample/quote from Mr Marble and see how they compare ...

Could I ask those posters who have used Foxstow shaker doors, how competitive where the prices. Looking at other threads it looks like MDF type doors are now the same price as tulipwood was in 2017/2018 and the 2019 prices are higher than the quote I got in November 2018. The Ikea/bespoke doors fits my kitchen height better but it looks as if DIY kitchens stanbury comes out cheaper Shock. Prefer the narrower rails on Foxstow though

Diseno · 04/02/2019 09:29

kitchen material suppliers have a price increase at the start of each year, normally kicks in around Feb.
90% of material are imported and many have had aprox 3 increases since the brexit convo started using it as an excuse to increase the price just encase.
doors tend to go up 10% per year
fixtures, fittings and applainces around 2% - 8% depending on brands etc.
