and is it a complete nightmare to keep clean? have you sealed it and if so how often?

We are desperate to get our patio sorted this year but its a big area and so I can't afford to make mistakes. Currently trying to decide between sandstone and porcelain. I'm drawn to the lighter colours but Im worried about staining.

I have a pale grey porcelain patio but it hasn't been down that long!

So far so good though, got some fence paint on it @ the weekend and it more or less wiped off!

We do but it takes one good power wash at the beginning of summer to clean it, though you have to be careful not to blow the grout.

We’ve got an Indian sandstone patio , and I loooove it ( found myself wiping my feet before going on it when it was just done )

However. It has gone a bit green here and there , so it will need a clean
It hasn’t been sealed

It’s only been down less than a year , and we do live in rural Wales , where we are known for our weather 😀

Our is Indian sandstone, not sealed, down 18 months and had its first major pressure wash this week, it is noticeably less slippy now. Not sealed.
Don’t let them use “magic grout” it’s shit!

our area is quite big because it warps around two sides of the house , plus we have lots of tall trees only about 50ft away and so we do get a lot of leaves and general dirt.

our last patio was ruined by jet washing (pointing came out) and so I'm worried about that.

porcelain would be lower maintenance but would also be a lot more expensive.

TeamRick did you lay your porcelain onto adhesive or did you use a dry/raised system?

Not heard of magic grout Teeny but I will avoid

yes, sandstone

I sweep it occasionally.

I would worry about slipping over on porcelain.

This is not mine, but similar. I especially like the edging in red paviers.

The porcelain isn't slippery at all PigletJohn, we've had a sample outside for about a year now and it's very textured, not at all shiny.

I think it is probably a sensible option but the look is very modern and I prefer the look of the stone. Just very worried about the maintenance

Yes, I had a patio in last house which was York stone and this house I've a Indian sandstone path in the golden colours, path is very long and wide (as in total size way bigger than most folks patios) and it's fine. Needs a power wash once a year, but so does the grey patio area. When I redo patio at the back it will be in same golden colours. It's lovely. I don't like the grey, everyone has it and it's really dull. On a summer day the creamy colours are gorgeous.

Cloud I'm sorry but I have no idea, the guys just came & laid it!

Here it is when it went down, and it's not slippy at all!

Covered in Welsh rain
It’s a bit green in places after a year 😀

My Indian sandstone paving gets slightly green in places particularly after the winter as it doesn't get any sun then.
A couple of times a year I use a watering can to spray it with Patio Magic - you need a dry day - and the green just gradually disappears over the following days.
I've never had it sealed in case it isn't good for the stone or makes a mess of it.
It looks lovely with the soft light colours.

We had a sandstone one for years but didn't seal it which I regret as our garden sloped towards the patio so it got covered in lichen ( I think) in the end . New house will need a new patio soon and I am definitely having this one sealed , but will probably go for a stone look again I loved all the different colours in the old one
