Hinges and kitchen cabinet question

Can any practically minded people help?

The door has come off a kitchen unit. It's very old, but won't be replaced as the house will be going on the market. I need a tidy looking temporary fix.

It had an external hinge, cottage style, rusty... see pic.

How do I hinge it so it still works? It isn't like a door frame, as it sits against the cabinet. See pic!

Any ideas? I think I need a special hinge, but no idea what kind.

Two of the pictures are of an intact door, to show how the hinge was, the last is the cabinet I need to fix which is up against a wall.

Any joiners out there?

What's actually happened? Is the hinge broken or have the little screws pulled out of the door?

You could buy a couple of antique brass butt hinges with finials (like these, fix them slightly above/below the existing holes. To a glance they will look similar to the long hinge.

Those look lovely, if I can make them fit! Thank you.

The top half of the hinge is still attached to the cabinet, but the screws attaching it to the door no long grip. I've tried glue in the holes.
The bottom half of the hinge is attached to the door, and the part fixing it to the cabinet has snapped off.

I can't imagine how they were originally fitted, to be honest. It seems fairly impossible but clearly wasn't!

Its a typical finial hinge use by french kitchen manufacturers 20 odd years ago. not likely to find a replacement the same now. if there are bits that would glue try araldite 2 part glue. butt hinges wont work in this situation because the door lays on the front of the unit. try looking at hafele.co.uk for an alternative type of hinge

Shape a wooden peg from a piece of wood/dowel with the grain running the length of the peg. It should be tapered from a little smaller than the hole the screw won't bite into, to a little larger. Easiest done with a stanley knife and whittled. Then pop a bit of wood glue in the hole and hammer the peg in. Allow glue to cure. Cut protruding part of peg off flush with the face of the door. Then line up the door with the hinge and mark and drill a pilot hole. Refit screw Smile

Gah. Missed the part about a bottom part if the hinge has sheared off! My method would only work for the issue with screw which won't bite.
I can't see the break in the picture as the image is too small (on the App). Can you post a close up?

Thanks anxious, it's a metal hole in the hinge, and there is no head to the screw so I don't think that will be a goer.

I'm going to look at that French thing. Thanks.

I can't see the hinge.

Is it shaped like a Stormproof? www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xstormproof+hinge.TRS0&_nkw=stormproof+hinge&_sacat=0

they were used on casement windows to partly overlay the frame.

Maybe draw a sketch of its profile, and post that.
