Is it possible to move washing machine into under stairs cupboard?

Just that really. We don’t have space for a proper utility room but have the cupboard that would fit our washer dryer in. The cupboard is next to the downstairs loo so I am hoping we can use the water and waste pipe from there.

Is this a reasonable idea? Would it cost a fortune?

Not sure as wouldn’t tumble dryer generate lots of heat - would you leave the cupboard door open when dryer is on?

Provided you had the necessary power / ventilation. Look on Pinterest/ houzz - there are a million examples of washing machine / dryer in a cupboard.

I did for ages. It was fine in there, no problems at all.

My friend has her tumble drier in the cupboard under the stairs it just happens to be in the kitchen. She just leaves the door open for ventilation.

It should be fairly straight forward to utilise the plumbing from the toilet next door.

Just make sure it's not one of those ones that catches fire. It wouldn't be ideal to have a fire under your stairs if you're upstairs at the time.

We have something like the set-up you are describing - our washing machine is in an understairs cupboard that opens into the cloakroom. I haven't got a dryer so haven't tended to worry about ventilation - just leave the door open for a while after I take a load out.

My concern would be fire dcompartmentation. Iff the washing machine had an electrical fire it could take out your main escape route i.e hall and staircase

Ours is under the stairs. It’s a washer though not a washer dryer, but there are vents at top and bottom of door to help with damp. Ours is tiled, if yours isn’t then I would sit the machine on one of those big trays designed to catch leaks (because we get water all over the floor every time we empty the filter, wouldn’t want to do that if it wasn’t tiled)
